I am getting close to having the rifle built. It is a Rem 700 long action with 30" hart bl. I will be using Lupla brass with BR primers. My question is if anyone has used any type of 140 gr bullet with success and 1000 yd ranges. Any load-powder or other recommendations- would be appreciated.
Thanks, Tac

Tac, http://www.long-range.com/forums/in...p;amp;s=761075e1be69a09a4f1f8b737fb6a547This is a fairly good general discussion about the 6.5 x 284 dealing with loads and some sidetracks. Then try the forum, www.long-range.comfor some of the other topics as well. There is also some information at www.longrangehunting.com in the forums. Use the search feature to locate the general topic. Also look at www.xtremeaccuracy.com for lots of general discussion now in the archives. I've been shooting the 140 AMAX, 139 Lapua Scenar in the 6.5 x 284 and the 155 Sierra MatchKings in a 6.5 x 68. Powders selection so far has been RE-22, IMR-7828, Norma MRP and V V N-560. Regards.

I shoot a 6.5/06AI competitively in 1K Br . The sierra 142 is a decent bullet but all over the chart on weight and lenght of bearing surface. By far the most consistent made bullet for the 6.5 is the JLK 140 (B) model.
Also you need to have an idea what bullet you are going to use BEFORE your gun is throated. The reason is the lenght of the bearing surface. The Sierra 142 is not really a VLD design and has a long bearing surface, the berger, jlk and other custom bullets are VLDs and as such have much shorter bearing surface lengths. The JLK is .112 shorter than the sierra. Consequently in my gun which was set up for sierra 142s, when touching the lands base of boattail is at bottom of neck, while the JLK bottom of boattail is way up in the neck.
I am rechambering to a shorter throat to solve that problem.
as a rule, sierras mk bullets shoot best just touching, while custom VLDs such as berger and jlk like to be .010-.030 into the lands.

Thanks for the poop, I'll be bending you Email more as time gets to the completion of my rifle. What kind of scopes are you seeing at the 1000 yd shoots ? I'll take any info , advise or try these I can get. I like using proven componets and equipment. It gets so much more expensive thinking you have all the answers. Thanks again guys and I'll talk to you soon. Regards, TAC

BR scopes are as follows
Money no object then NF is first choice
Leupold 6-25 LPS both stock and bumped by Premier reticle
Bausch and Lomb 4200 series
Burris, Nikon and Weaver and rest fall into here.
Strongly consider IOR 6-24x , new Zeiss 6-24x, Tasco Super Sniper in 20X from SWFA for $299
