This got me thinking about other "odd" sandwiches growing up.

Mum loved to make cheddar & sliced (1/2 lengthwise) date sammies.

She referred to them as "cheese & cockroach", actually pretty good.

Why would anyone listen to a yank talking about an Aussie food....lol

Listen children,
Virginamite is the food of champions because it is one of the largest concentrates of vitamin B group found in a single food which has an indefinite, (not that it lasts that long) shelf life.
Every Aussie is weened on it, every Aussie eats it on toast the morning after a booze-up as it is the best hangover medicine invented next to 1000mg Brewers Yest capsules which you should have taken before going out on the turps. I ate more Vegemite in the 70's than the rest of my life combined, so did everyone else back then. (Males of course)

Invented before penicillin, troops were dying of infection more than anything else after combat in WW1 so several food companies came up with long shelf life foods (everything was shipped back then) that could introduce heavy doses of Vitamin B complex to assist to body to heal.

Now the facts,
1. Men eat toast, kids eat bread.
2. Only "butter" butters (Margarine has the same calories as butter, no flavour whatsoever and is more suited to fire starter)
NOTE: Even ants will not eat margarine dropped on the ground at a campsite, FACT.
3. Toast and spread butter while still hot enough to melt butter
4. A smear of Virginamite is all that is needed as the acidic taste blends well with the toast.
NOTE: Do not spread it like peanut butter or jam. You are the problem, not the Virginamite.
5. Consume at least 2 pieces of toast with a cup/mug of tea. (A dollop of milk is ok but nothing else)
NOTE: There is no sugar in tea so forget spraying everything you eat and drink with sugar, that is why you get diabetes. (Oz ranked 137/195 countries @ 5.6% compared to US ranked 43/195 @10.8%) Ref: www.indexmundi.com

Carry on.........

"If you eat a very miniscule amount, it's not completely objectionable." Noted.

I know "a guy" that married a foreign wife. Upon presentation of cheap white bread, and vanilla ice cream, yes, an ice cream sandwich emerged. "That's what mom did," he was told and no amount of discussion resulted in any change of opinion it was anything other than correct and normal for said sandwich designation. The appearance of prepared sandwiches has been spotty at best ever since, "he" says.

Vegemite is a thick, dark brown Australian food spread made from leftover brewers' yeast extract with various vegetable and spice additives.

How could this concoction taste anything but crappy?

YUK!

You're comparing "left over brewer's yeast" with bacon?

Please don't tell me you're a vegetarian. lol

Proving the brewers yeast was neither left over, nor without purpose and value...............

Sugar in tea not only totally contaminates the flavour of the tea, it negates the value of the drink.

Have been to Aus and NZ quite a bit - it tastes just as bad there. In AZ our Rotary sponsored a foreign HS student every year - each year that student gave us an intro talk and at the end of the year a departing talk. One year it was a girl from Brisbane - upon intro told us how she loved her Vegemite and needed to maintain a supply. The group sent for 2 jars - one for her and one for us to try. After tasting it quite a few guys agreed that Vegamite accounted for her lesser appreciated qualities. At her exit talk, we gave her what was remaining (most) of the second jar of V'mite and a big jar of Adams peanut butter.
