I have been waiting for my new truck now going on two months. Its built with a VIN sitting in a big airport lot in Flint. I am told this truck is waiting for chips. I sold my truck thinking based on the dealer info I would get it shortly after I sold the truck. Needless to say driving my wife's old Buick Encore is a shock to my system. I better have it before hunting season. I heard from our dealer that dealerships in Ohio are offering $6000 per truck over sticker price. I would not put it past a union guy in Flint Truck plant taking kickbacks and pushing the trucks to certain dealerships through first.
My wife does a lot of business with the dealership and the GM discount I get I am kind of stuck. This just in time inventory the automakers went to sure bit them in the butt.
Supplies are incredibly low. I haven't seen a new truck on the local Ford dealership lot in 2-3 weeks.
That's been the case recently. I have been told the trucks hitting the lots have been pre sold so nothing sits around. The GM truck plant in Flint went on what they call a pause for a short time and they got back to work this week.
About a month ago a new GMC HD AT4 was ready to be picked up when I drove by the dealership. I do this every day but my wife says she will get a call when its getting loaded on the truck. Same color as my truck so I got my hopes up until I got closer. I did get to look at it and sit in the drivers seat. Just made me want it more. The dealer said he thought my truck would be one of the first shipped since its a Denali Duramax. He figures GM will ship the higher profit trucks first. I have read trucks to be the first in line for any chips GM gets.
I have seen 1/2 tons come in and go and even some single cab 2500's. There is even a 2022 sitting on the lot. Not sure how that got through and the 2021's are sitting. I am thinking they will have to slowly release the 2021's or if they will flood the market at once there will be glut of inventory. Used truck prices are crazy but that to will pass once we get through this.

Think it's bad now, if China goes into Taiwan, it'll be worse. One of the first things they will take control of is TSMC, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp, one of the most important semiconductor foundries in the world.

Just thinking out loud here but why can't Micron Technologies produce those chips? They can crank them out pretty fast and it would be another American product.
I worked at the GM factory there in Framingham from 1973 and 74. Then it was half closed due to the 74 Fuel "Shortage"...
What I saw working internally in a GM Factory, has lead to me NEVER owning a GM product.
Wouldn't even rent one, when I use to travel nationwide on business....
But I do hope you get your vehicle soon Kingston.... I'd be pissed at a dealer telling me one thing and then it turning out to be a lie, just so they could get another sale.... having quotas... but then the last time I dealt with a new car dealer was 1987.... I don't care much for them either....or have anything good to say about them either....

Brother bought a Tundra here in CO that I negotiated for him at $36,000 two years ago. Lives in MO and dealer there just offered him $42,000 for that truck with 35,000 miles on it.
Just put a deposit down on a 4runner. Saying 8-12 weeks out. Guess we'll see.
I just sold my 8 year old 1/2 ton for $30k. I paid $42k brand new in 2013. It's ridiculous.

Buy used, let some other sucker take the initial hit on depreciation...
Not so today.
Used, even those out of warranty... are damn near as much as a new one.
Things are only worth what someone is willing to pay. The only time I actually "needed" a vehicle is when I only owned one, and it blew the head gasket so I had to walk to work. Other than that, it was because I wanted one.
