I'm not really familiar with long range shooting but I am looking to give it a whirl. I'm curious about what scopes you guys use at 1000 yards. When I read the literature on the Leupold long range scopes they talk 15 MOA adjustment with the target turrets. If I understand correctly that would be 150 inches or 12 1/2 feet at 1000 yards which doesn't seem like nearly enough holdover for that distance even with a super magnum. Would someone be kind enough to shed some light on this for me? Thanks

Check out the Leupold website..read the specs on the LR 30mm scopes..30mm tubes will have more internal adjustments than the one inch models..there are always ways of adding additional MOA increases..as with certain bases or with Burris Signature rings..using the optional +20 or +10 inserts..most 'flat' cartridges..for example the 260 Ackley Imp...need only 28-30" high @ 100 yds with a 142 SMK to have a 1K yd -0-....there is no holdover @ 1000 yds...know your scope/rifle/load..have a known zero @ 100 on your scope...then know how many clicks up for your known 1000 yd -0- Also having a stationary target always helps too....not a constantly moving target such as a p/dog..Leupold is not the only scope builder for LR shooting..study some ballistic charts too....Realguns.com has a real easy calulator to use once registered...here's my latest LR scope..Bushnell's new 30mm 4200 Tactical 6-24x50 w/SF...shown with my 260 AI Savage s/shot rifle...

MattW - Where Leupold talks about 15 MOA of adjustment, that's with one complete revolution of their standard target adjustments.

That just happens to be exactly the "come up" I normally need from my 100 yard zero to shoot 600 yards at my home range with my .308 and 168 grain match bullets.

For more range, I can easily dial beyond that one revolution. Often times it's best to use a special base that has 20 MOA of elevation built in, such as one from Seekins Precision or Badger Ordnance. Also, some scopes have a much greater range of internal adjustments for both elevation and windage.

I shoot an XOTIC 4x16x56 on my LR big game rifle, XTREME OPTICAL INSTRUMENT CORPORATION. I have a leupold mar 6.5x20x50 M1 TMR on my LR varmint rifle, and the xotic isn't on par with the loopy in the optics line but it has 105 MOA of elevation adjustment, FFP mil dot, and the turrets are bullet proof, you move it up 18 MOA and the POI raises 18 MOA. a pic

You might also want to check out Nightforce....I have one in 5.5-22x50 everytime I look through it I'm amazed at the clarity...it also has 100 moa adjustment
