Short version. Due to the great ammo drought, I used an old box of 30-06 ammo.

Missed a corroded spot on one of the cases. Burned through a spot in the brass and bore scope showed an etched chamber.

Any safety issues or issues with brass for reloading.
Shoot it or rebarrel?

If light polishing would take it out, I would try that first. Should be good to go unless it is pitted from the flame path...

It looks to be a pit matching the shape of the hole in the brass. Otherwise chamber is shiny.

I am not a gunsmith! It is probably just cosmetic. No extraction problems? I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks.

I suspected it was OK to carry on but decided other opinions couldn't hurt.

Cartridges cycle fine. Even the pierced bad brass extracted and ejected fine. Hit the target a bit low though.

I'd like to see a picture of the cartridge case.

If I was really worried about it I'd get a piece of small stiff wire bend a crook on the end sharpen it and see if I could feel the pit.

Did this a while ago. Don't know if I saved the case.

I can try to find and feel for the pit but bore scope looks like there is a pit. Not sure how deep.

Bore scopes are neat instruments but they show you all kinds of things which have no practical effect on function. If the mark is not noticeable when you shoot the rifle, it is not anything to worry about. GD

Yes Sir! Bore scopes are a barrel maker's best friend.

Just be careful to keep it clean and not let it start to rust.

Years back I go into vintage muzzle loading shotguns....I asked a gunsmith friend about looking at the barrels with a bore scope his reply was if I did I'd likely never shoot it again.

Thanks for the replies.

I had shot a couple rounds of good ammo after the bad cartridge with no problems. I have a bolt face with a couple pits from Winchester primers that's been hanging in there for a 800 rounds or so, so the presence of a pit didn't bother me (other than a reminder of my not paying attention).

I was more concerned about any effect of the pit in the chamber on brass and had not thought of a possible rust issue. Stainless so that should help some. I needed the borescope to see the pit so it was not huge. Found some 2019 mfg corelocks so I can finish checking the scope and decide if I want to buy some dies.

Thanks again.
