I have a couple synthetic stocks that I am going to try and paint. Looking to do something fairly simple like tan with black webbing. I'm planning on doing a few coats of tan and then the webbing, followed by a few coats of a flat clear coat. For those of you who have done this dose krylon seem pretty durable or is there something else that I should consider using? I want this to be a diy project so Im not looking to get it dipped. Also for those that have painted stocks is there anything you would do or not do if you were to paint another one?

I've done quite a few with krylon and webbing paint with a clear coat. Easy to do. Best advice I could give you is to spray a little webbing paint on some cardboard and get the feel for how it goes on. And then after it's painted let it sit for at least 2 weeks. Even though the paint is dry, it's not cured.

Is it paint, then webbing, then clear coat? All of it Krylon? I've used other brands. Just make sure it's enamel. You don't want to put a lacquer clear over an enamel paint. I clean and sand the stock. Then wipe it down with acetone to degrease it. Then hang it up so you can get all around it with room to spray. Go light coats so the paint doesn't run. I paint it and then let it dry for a couple of hours. Then spray the webbing on or sponge paint and let that dry and then spray the clear coat on. Once it's dry take it down and set it aside for a couple of weeks.

Krylon or Rustoleum work fine with a couple coats of flat clear over the top. I have done numerous rifles and stocks.
