WTB reasonable priced single shot rifle for my great nephew who will be getting into shooting and hunting shortly. H&R ?Rosie,Toppi? In a small caliber 223 preferred. I just want you to past on the tradition to our next generation of up and coming hunters and shooters.

Not sure what Rossis are bringing, but H&Rs seem to have gone up in asking price lately. You might could get something like a Ruger American or Savage Axis for the same price.

Thanks I thought of the same but my father gave me a single shot as my 1st rifle. With a single shot he always taught me to make sure that 1st shot counts as that is all you are going to get. I can not think how many shots that I have passed up over the years as I was not sure if I could make a clean shot with only one. Hopefully some member will have one that they will part with at a responsible price.

My first gun was a Stevens 15a .22lr single shot. I agree that it will teach you target acquisition and bullet placement pretty good.
But IMHO nothing can replace range time when learning to shoot. Practice makes perfect.
Good luck with your search.

Henry, no doubt about it. Nice wood, nice lines, good trigger. Get the Henry rail, because it has more slots, and the hammer spur they sell on their site. 1-9” will handle the .223 deer bullets fine. Also comes in .243, and .350, which might not be a terrible choice either with cheap factory practice ammo.
I think they finally decided to sell youth stocks separately too.
The various H&Rs are solid guns and the right frame will let you add a lot of barrels, but the platform is a dead-end and overpriced IMO currently.
What fresh Hell is this?

H&R is no longer in production and the prices are going up on clean ones. Henry is surely nice. I also find the CVA rifles shoot well and are reasonably priced. Even new, you can pick one up down here for $299 most places. If I were you, I would check the local pawn shops and gun stores. You may be surprised at the deals you can find without paying shipping and FFL transfer fees. P.S. I love the H&R and have them in 300 BO, .22 Hornet, 7-08, .280, 25-06, 357 max, and 35 Rem. All easily minute of deer. Good luck.

Very pleased with my CVA Hunter I recently purchased from a pawn shop. It is in 7-08, tryed a few loads, getting about an 1 1/4" 3 shot group. Still working on more loads, think it will do better If I do my part.
