Hey fellas anyone have had any functional issues with the PTG M700 BDL copy floorplate?

I have heard of the Obendorf style open under recoil but have don't have first had experience.

Looking to replace the pot metal factory ones on my Sendero loaners with the HS stock so prefer to drop in an go.

Thanks!

There's several posts on this in the past but I'll respond as I did in the others: PTG bottom metal is much more consistent in fit and is better quality than Remington - not throwing dispersions at those folks, but two entirely different manufacturing processes with differing markets.

Used just shy of a dozen of Obendorf PTGs on various Remingtons, including a lot of 250gr 35 Whelen loads. I have only used the canoe style Obendorfs that give you one extra round down, so that is all I can speak to.

Zero issues until last year, when I installed one a Manners stock that was badly inletted. There was a high spot in the middle of the inletting which bowed/warped the PTG bottom metal enough so that it it opened on every other shot (very light 120gr 7-08 loads). I ended up having clean up the inletting and marine-tex (bed) the bottom metal on that stock, which fixed the problem--now works like all the others.

If anything, you can modify the PTG to lock up higher than any Remington BDL metal, but it's possible that they are more sensitive to imperfect inletting (high spots). Regardless they're light years beyond Remington factory metal. And they will hold an extra round down if you get the canoe style. I'd have to look up my receipts but I've been using them since 2013 or 2014.

Not a functional issue, but I found the PTG have a slightly different shape than factory. With reference to the magazine box, the Remington trigger guard and rear tang has a slight downward angle whereas the PTG is straight. First pic is Rem 700 factory LA bottom metal, the second (in the white) a PTG purchased in 2017, both with a straight edge placed on the magazine box. If looking for a drop-in, you may find that the floor plate will not mate with the bottom of the stock, leaving a portion of the magazine box exposed. A little inletting will improve the fit, or re-shaping if you want perfect. For new work it won't be a problem.

Hawkins precision is extremely nice and well made.
Another alternative to the PTG is the Redhawk brand bottom metal. Great fit and quality.

I have PTG bottom metal on a custom R700 in 204 Ruger. It’s worked flawlessly. But that’s not a good test for opening under recoil.

Thanks fellas!

I roll Hawkins BDL but looking for another alternative since I am sourcing parts for a 6 rifle build for my friends retiring out of military service.

Just looking at options that aren't as critical.
