Please take a few seconds and poke your deer's tongue back in. To a non-hunter or someone even ambivalent about hunting who might see the picture, it gives hunting a bad image. A small thing to be sure, but a photo will be around a lot longer than the deer will be and even you will wish that you had done that when you see the photograph.

They don't care what you do or don't do, they hate you anyway. Appeasement is not possible. Stop trying to sugar coat it for them. Live your life unapologetically.

Most anyone I show pictures to hunt anyway so no big deal but I do try (don't always succeed ) to make the picture look as good as it can conceding the fact that I am in it....

I agree with this!

I did learn this years ago from my oldest Son, and it really makes for better pictures and Life Long Memories!

I agree with the OP. IDK what others think about it, but for me it's about respecting the animal and the tradition. The other one that really gets me is the citiots that can't or won't pull the arrow out of the animal before taking pictures. That's just moronic IMO.

They say everything happens for a reason.
For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

I may poke a tongue back in or flip a deer over so the exit wound isn't showing....or I might not.

However I choose to do it you can bet its got nothing to do with what anyone else (hunter, neutral, or anti) finds distasteful.

I agree with the OP.
I really hate seeing the yo yo's that just have to sit on the game animal for the ego shot....
It's disrespectful at the very least.....

The other thing that doesn't make for a good photo is grabbing the antlers, nobody wants to see your hands, put your hands out of sight behind the animal's ears.

Classic! laugh

I got a pic of a fawn nursing a doe. I'll show that pic first and then a pic of a dead doe. Tell whoever those are before and after pics. Of course they were not, but it sure fools a lot of people.

Well, I guess they are before and after pics, but taken years apart.

Of course it's all opinion, but I always, at least, a few seasons into my hunting career, learned to hide the tongue and not have any obstruction behind the animal's head/antlers/horns. An open skyline, with the camera lower than the subject, and minimal support holding the animal up really enhances what you are really trying to capture. My hunting buddies really hate me when I take their photos, especially with the convenience of digital cameras and being able to really capture that photo or memory.

I might do what the OP suggests for a lot of reasons but Im not enough of a dreamer to think it will deter the antihunting crowd. To them its still a killer with a dead animal. I first read about cleaning up your game animal in a outdoor magazine over 30 years ago.
