Now just need a few more things like the arrows, broadheads, and release then I'm ready to practice for this season! Our opening day is Oct 1st but I probably won't make it out there until the 18th and do a good hard week of hunting whitetails. I cannot wait.

This board has been dead! I wonder if you're all bow hunting already?

I bought a bow in March and my 14 year old son got one as well. We have been antelope hunting and deer hunting. I got my first bow kill on a muley doe at 8:10 a.m. on opening morning this past Saturday. I have had a couple of chances on antelope, but no luck yet. It has been a lot of fun!

Awesome, what bow did you get? I got a Diamond Rapture by Bowtech and killed a 3D target deer with it today at Bass pro. LOL.

I was actually considering hunting Antelope with a rifle out west next year but that plan may just end up changing to bow or both, HA HA! I am the ultimate hunter, I LOVE IT!

I'm using a Bowtech Allegiance set at 63 lbs. The arrow blew through both sides of the doe's rib cage at 33 yards (nicked a rib going in and out)and stuck in a tree on the other side.

Antelope hunting with a bow is challenging. Most people do it using Double Bull blinds set up at water holes. Unless you can set it up and leave it up for a few days (i.e. private land), or can set up around some other man made clutter like a stock tank or windmill, the antelope are very skittish. Under those circumstances, the lone does and the cocky, juvenile bucks are your most likely quarry. I've had some chances but never took a shot. Now, while my wife is ranging for my son in the blind, I've tried stalking. That is a real challenge. I've not gotten closer than 50 yards, although I was probably 30 seconds away from having a buck walk over a ridge into my set up, but I peeked over the top and spooked him first. I have seen the same buck many times, and he likes to stay just out of bow range. He is nothing special, but I have a big surprise for him if he tries that the opening day of rifle season.

If you come to Wyoming to hunt, you draw a tag for the animal. Then, you can hunt with your bow during the special bow season (you still need to buy an archery license in addition to the antelope license) or the gun season, and with your gun during the gun season. So, you can hunt either way within the season limitations. If you hunt archery season and don't get what you want, you can come back during rifle season. Be sure to apply for preference points before the end of September so you will have an edge over people with no points. In addition to "any antelope" tags, you can draw up to two extra "doe/fawn" tags.

Dont mean to be a downer but around a month to practice with a new set-up is cutting it close. If you have never hunted with a bow before i would say its a fools folly, and i would think it should take a few months of practice to get used to shootin a bow. Do yourself a favor, get a deer practice target that way it will help when it comes down to crunch time. Good luck, let us know how you do......

While it may be cutting it close on time I think its possible....spend about an hour in the morning and 1 in the evening shooting from various positions and distances, do this everyday for the next 30 days and it will definately pay off.
Lets see now...2 hrs a day for 30 days = 60 hours which means a whole lot more shooting then most people do in a year.
Go ahead and do it and hey, if you shoot more on weekends you will have more time than what I just stated.
Good luck!

Anybody can bowhunt, practice or no, but you have to KNOW your limitations. Obviously the more you practice, the more proficient you become.

Tom, I still need my arrows, release and broadheads but I will be picking them up either tomorrow, thurs, or Fri. As soon as I get them I will begin practicing, practicing, practicing, and practicing. I guarentee I will have logged more then 100 credit hours during Archery 101 and from all the different positions such as standing, sitting, and different heights.

Getting a Tru Fire release, dozen Gold Tip XT Hunters, and some Spitfire expandable broad heads to dress for success. Opening day here is Oct 1 but my hunt begins on Oct 18th after I've done some scoping out of my hunting area. So you see 264 bore, I will be prepared.

For sure! I want to be ready when the moment happens (sounds like a Cialis commercial) but I'm not going to expect anything other then getting out into the woods to try something new, breathe in the fall air and camping out with my friends and just having a great time away from it all. I have all of my bow hunting gear now that should last quite a long time so it should be well worth the investment.
