I am going to start loading for my Model 70 Extreme Weather .264 Win Mag. I was thinking the hunting version of the Nosler Ballistic tip for open prairie mule deer / white tail and Pronghorn Antelope. I see a lot of good things about the reconfigured ballistic tips compared to the versions I was shooting a decade ago that seems a bit lightly constructed. Thoughts? Anyone have a good open prairie load for a set up like this?

My favorite was the 140 BT and RL25. Shot like crazy in my rifle. I switched to 140 ABs since I had a pile of them, now using Retumbo. Speeds are about the same and either bullet is fantastic. 69.3 Retumbo, CCI250, Nosler case 140 AB 67.6 RL25, CCI250, Nosler case, 140 BT

Fantastic accuracy, nice shooting. Should be more than capable of killing many many animals.

Wow, those are great groups. I would be thrilled to get results near that. Thanks for the information!

I have 3 boxes of 125 grain partitions... anybody had any luck with them? I might have to start off trying them until components become more plentiful. I was planning on running 140's when available.

My 264 loves 125gr Partitions over 7828. Very accurate. Never had a deer take a step. The only one I ever recovered was under the skin of the ham of a mature buck that was facing directly at me.

I have had very good results with H1000 and 125's in two different 264's.

I built a custom 264WM on a trued Rem 700 action, 29” 1:8” twist switch barrel. Other barrel is in 7STW 26” 1:9.25” twist. In the 264WM, I am running the Nosler 142g ABLR, it is an absolute tack driver in my rifles. Haven’t finished running it in yet, only had 20 down the tube but the first five shots were touching. In my other 264WM, an EW like yours, I run 140g Accubonds through it with great results. Best powders are RE25, H1000 and Retumbo is the bees knees.
Cheers.

My model 70 shoots the 125 partitions extremely well with 68.5gr of Mag Pro. I have to look at my notes when I go on break, for the OAL. I was getting 3222 FPS. It also shoots the 120 E-tips extremely well and the 140 AB.
Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

A friend in Colorado (Hesp) has the same rifle, he used a Hammer I think it was a 124 HH. Anyhow for a really big cow elk at fairly close range, through both shoulders, bam. I used the Nosler 120 NBT & 125PT around 3200 from a 6.5/284 back when they were a Wildcat, fantastic bullets on game and bucked the wind very well, at least out to 315 yds, ha. Hey, my M16 was blown off 6ft at 300 Meters (Annual Qualification) in the winds of Germany, back in '72! ha Did I mention how bad I hate the Wind out in the prairie????

One of my favorite rifles and cartridges: Nice rifle! I looked at one a few weeks back, and really liked it. I passed on it, but if I lived back in MT and was still hunting pronghorn and mule deer, I'd probably buy one.

When I did my load development for my 264, I stuck to 140gr. For me then, the best powder was Ramshot Magnum. I tried all the usual suspects. I guess, it was almost 20 years ago, there wasn't as many as there is now. I used Hornady SSTs. Accubond 140 weren't available then. I got to do some loading and check them out. I think it might be a better choice in close without losing long range.
You can hunt longer with wind at your back

My Model 70 likes 62 gr IMR 4831 with 125 gr partitions. Norma brass, Fed 215M primer. Just over 3,200 fps. Seems like the Balistic tips are more forgiving and consistently shoot good in most rifles, but if you can get the partitions to shoot i would go with them for an all around open prairie deer/pronghorn bullet.
