WoodsyAl; better news all the time

-the new variant seems less potent.
-it has now been found in Holland with a date of origin prior to being found in RSA

Should mean it was found in RSA but not originated in RSA.

I’m feeling more posting about your trip Al!

Here’s a quote from a gentleman in RSA

Ouch!!!
Once again the world's media is reporting: "South Africa has a new Covid variant" as if the variant started here and is infecting us all.
CAN I SAY THIS AGAIN, MORE LOUDLY FOR THE IDIOT JOURNALISTS AT THE BACK: South Africa has one of the
most sophisticated and advanced infectious diseases
infrastructure on the planet. Some of the world's leading
epidemiologists work in South Africa. We've had to
develop these capabilities to deal with TB and AIDS and
other diseases ravaging our continent.
It is no surprise that our medical system is the first in the
world to identify new Covid variants. It is no surprise that
we led the world in clinical trials of vaccines.
What IS a surprise is how lazy journalists write headlines:
"New Covid variant in South Africa". No, this new Covid
variant has been found in New Zealand, England, Brazil,
France, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and other places
South African scientists isolated, sequenced and
understood it first. Report THAT fact, but don't start all
over again with putting "South Africa is unsafe" into
people's heads.

OMICRON unscrambled is MORONIC.

And the next up letter, Xi, got canned for obvious reasons.

GRF, yes recent news is encouraging and I haven’t given up on believing I can make the trip, especially if it is later in the year. Thanks for pulling for me!

There is still a lot we don’t know. I expect we will find that current vaccines offer some level of protection, and there will be work that does not start from scratch to develop vaccines that will work better. We’ll have to see what governments and airlines do.

I have to say that when I was in South Africa during September, COVID was being taken much more seriously there than here. Masks were everywhere and whenever you entered any building there was someone offering hand sanitizer.

Found the same in Namibia and Botswana in September. They are definitely taking it more seriously than we are, mainly because vaccines and good hospital care aren’t readily available.

Seems to me it doesn't really matter whether your vaxed or not. You can still get it, transmit it, and die from it. Maybe I'm missing something?

Wife and I just back from a 4-park, 11 day photo safari in Tanzania, postponed from last year. We went despite what our government said- just short of an outright ban on it ..... Snuck back into US just in time it looks like. Amsterdam had 16 positives off a flight from SA the day before we passed through.

More bogus overblown BS, IMO. It won't stop until the reset is accomplished. Viruses get less dangerous and powerful as they mutate, almost always. The same cannot be said for media hype, driven by th same talking points given them from above. Buy pharmaceutical! Follow the money......

Our guide said the business was 20% of what it was before C19 was loosed on the world by the Wuhan lab. And that as the recovery from last year when it was virtually nil. We probably overtiped shamelessly, everyone from our guide to the restroom attendants (cleanest restrooms anywhere on the trip were in Africa, even in the bush camps).

We of course had to be fully vaccinated, with paperwork up the kazoo and more paperwork on top of that. In Amsterdam we had to sign a paper certifying that we had our paperwork before we could board for JFK..... but no one asked to see the actual test results from the day-before test.

Beaurocracy at it's .....?best?.

Once we left the Kilmanjaro Airport, we didn't wear masks until we got back there, per our guide's advice. Our greatest risks, as I projected before the trip, were in the airports, planes, and the day we spent in NYC.

Civilization is overrated, and hazardous to your health.

Yes, the mortality rate is supposed to be much lower for the vaccinated.

I read 40% of the people dying in Maryland are fully vaxxed. So, I guess you can say they have less of a chance of dying, but not much. Also, a new study out of England shows those who are vaxxed have a worse chance at heart attacks and at a younger age. Further study needed to confirm it.

I’ll take a 40% chance of death versus a 60% chance any day of the week.

Well, being vaxed doesn't keep you from dying from Covid, contracting it, or spreading it, and masks are a farce. Those who've had the so called vaccine are guinea pigs, period. Time will tell how the guinea pigs are affected.

Last numbers I saw, mortality rates from Covid were less than .5% for everyone, vaxed or not.

Also, if people were treated as soon as diagnosed instead of told to come back when you can't breath 85% of those dead would have been saved according to an article in the Epoch Times.

Qanon membership paid up??
Well, what do you think happened? Maybe some Chinaman ate some raw bat sushi and spread a bat disease around town that inadvertently got to Italy and the U.S. brought by Chinese travelers that went to Wuhan for the Chinese New Year celebration? Or you reckon that bioweapon lab had something to do with it?
