Hi folks. My brother asked me to sell a rifle for him, but it's not something I'm terribly familiar with. Past sales on GB or Armslist are minimal enough to make it hard to find info.
Gun is a 1957 Winchester Model 62A. Has been shot, but is quite clean. Some wear on the tube where the pump rides, but otherwise in good shape. Action is tight and positive all around.
The only bad part is the dovetails that hold the mag tube on are a bit looses, which seems to be a common problem with these rifles. Pics below.
Can anyone give me a ballpark of what these should go for? If the few GB listings are to be believed, somewhere between 800-1200, but like I said there's not enough of those to make a great call. Thanks in advance.
Your WInchester 62A seems to be above average shooter condition and is desirable little.22 Of course price is subjective and I have seen prices in the range you suggested of $800 -$1200. In my area for a local sale I would think a price $800 - $900 would go fairly quick. If you are patient and find the right person wanting one, you may hold out for $1,000.00.
I saw one this week in a shop that was a little older, but not quite in as good of shape for $350. I went back to buy it and it was gone. I noticed a lot of the rifles were listed at the $800 mark, but it didn’t look like many, if any, sold there. I’ve been looking for one for my son is really the only reason I’ve been paying much attention to them. They’re really neat rifles. I’m hesitant to put a price on it, but from what I’ve seen it would list/sell for around $500 or so here. That could be different in other areas.
Thank you both for the input! Ill probably advertise local for a bit, then may chuck it up on GunBroker to see what happens. Unless someone here decides they're into it

Depending on the Damage/ fix of Magazine Ferrells. Once you go to the 1k + buyers get discriminating.
Nice little rifle. It would probably sell pretty damn fast right here with a fair and reasonable price. No Gunbroker fees and taxes. No B.S. Good luck, Ed

I might spend the evening trying to get the mag tube fixed up (it doesn't seem hard based on some preliminary research). Would probably be well worth the time investment there.

I'd prefer to sell here if I can. Local is even better, as there's no shipping fees (last gun I shipped cost $78!) but I recognize there's probably a better market on here than in my town
Awesome. I appreciate that. It's a super cool thing. I know he's (not so subtly) trying to get me to buy it. ironically, I'm trying to get him to buy one of my rifles. I think we both just need the cash at the moment lol.
I've sold a couple and wouldn't take less than $800 for that rifle in that condition.

Its all right to be white!! Stupidity left unattended will run rampant Don't argue with stupid people, They will drag you down to their level and then win by experience
If the magazine tube dovetails are similiar to a Winchester 61, the magazine tube rings rotate out by inserting a wood dowl or something similar inside the ring and turning 90 degrees. Sometimes the attempt to remove the ring is by mistakingly tapping it out directly to the side, which will open the dovetail by pushing the edges of the dovetail slightly up. By using a piece of hardwood or brass you can gently tap the edges of the dovetail down.... sometime only a few thousands of an inch will do, to tighten the dovetail up when the ring is re-installed.
Also check the chamber face for a dry-fire dimple. These pumps always get dry fired after the last round (unless you count your shots). If it has the dimple, it will affect price.
Hey all. Thanks for all the help and input. Rifle was solds locally for a good price (good to both parties) and I appreciate you helping me go into that negotiation a bit more educated. That's why I like this forum! Folks are helpful as hell.
