Hey Guys, just moved here from "other" Board.
Question: anyone have any load data for the 75 Hornady V-max in a 6mm/284 ( the 6mm/06, and 240 weatherby are all similar, so if you just have that, it will help)
I am having a rifle put together for this round. I have had experience with the 240W and 75x, just want to see what else someone may have tried? Jim

Hey Jim, I see you are a fellow Utahn. I have convinced myself that I need a .25-284 and a 6.5-284. The six five will probably be the first. I can't help you with the 6mm-284. What made you go that route. Big Stick has loads of info on the .25-284 and from what others have said that own them, the .25-284 is by FAR the better round, especially with 75 grain vmax bullets. What are your building specs on your new toy? I do my varmint hunting with a 6.5-06 and love it for the long stuff. I am not into killing numbers, so I leave the 300 yard and closer critters alone, but if they are out there at 500+, I get real excited. Flinch

JimK & Flinch,
Hogdon's No. 27 Manual has a page each for 6-284 and 25-284. They do not list the 75 V-Max that you asked for. They do list a 75 gr Hornady HP with H4831 52.0-55.0, H414 47.0-49.0, and H380 42.0-46.0. That was using reformed Win Brass and Win Primers. Hope it helps. Sean

Thanks for the replies, LoneEagle, I have the hagdon Manual you spoke of, and I am planning on using H4832SC.
Flinch, I spoke with you some onths ago on the "other" Board. I live in Sandy. I have a Remington Classic short action in 6.5/284, and use the 125 Partition at 3215 for most bug game, and the 120 Ballistic tip at 3150 for coyotes and exotics. I have a model 7 that was rebarreled to 220 Swift ( the barrel came off that Remington Classic) and it was so much slimmer and trimmer than my Classic, I wanted one in a coyote/deer rifle. I am having another Model 7 synthetic rebarreled with an Adams & bennet barrel ( Midways barrel) its been fluted, 24" with a muzzle brake ( so I can see whats going on "out there") and I picked the 6mm.284 just to use the lighter weight bullets, i.e. 75x, 75 V-max. It makes a very handy little rifle, but much more easier for me to hit anything with than the regular Model 7 barrel, and I am in 240 Weatherby class.
I absolutely "love" my 6.5/284, and have every idea the 25/284 would be just as great. I really like the 284 Win case for a short action, but I used a 240 Weatherby a little, and I "love" the way those light (up to 90 grain) bullets behave on the smaller stuff like coyotes and muledeer. If it does not suit me, I will just rebarrel it to another 6.5/284 , but I "just have to" try this first, ha. BTW, I use 54 grains of AA4350 with the 125 Partition and 54 grains of Imr 4831 for the 120 BT. I can keep 3 rounds under .5" with the partition, and the 120's "usually" make one ragged hole. It is also an Adams & bennet barrel from Midway, back when they were $69.95 each! ha. Good to hear from you again Flinch! Jim

Thanks Jim, I missed your post somehow. I checked back a couple of times and there wasn't anything, so I went on my way. Flinch
