I'm a smoked oyster kind of guy. Prefer them in oil with peppers. Brand doesn't matter as all I have seen come from China and probably from the same caner, just a different label. I usually get them at Aldi as they seem to be the cheapest. Best eaten with a "captain's wafer" type cracker. Add a slice of pepper cheese and it's a mighty good snack!

I learned long ago that all sardines come from the same country all it is is a small fish there is no fish called sardine Good Eats on a snowmachine ride
Everyone had them in the pantry back in downeast Maine. I grew up weir fishing for herring/sardines and sent many hogshead to the cannery. I love me some sardines in hot sauce or some kippered snacks. They’re an acquired taste though. My wife bails right outta the house when my oldest and I crack open a can.
As mentioned by some above, I dote on any and all kinds, plus pickled herring, smoked oysters, canned octopus, potted meat, deviled ham, SPAM, and lots more.
I like sardines from the can, on a sandwich with mayo and sliced jalapenos, or mashed up with relish, mustard and hot sauce on crackers. I have recently discovered the Alstertor brand of canned goodies from Germany. They make kipper snacks as well as herring in an herb dill sauce and more. Large oval cans, both. I get them at our Air Force Commissary, but here's a LINK
Portugal is THE number one country for canned fish. They have dozens of brands and hundreds of varieties using all kinds of fish. Herring generally comes from Scandinavia or other northern waters. It's all good.

This movie is good for a couple of yucks. I eat kippered herring regularly. It was a staple growing up. Brunswick or King Oscar with Ritz. Nothing fancy.
Used to love the sardines that were canned in sild oil. Can never find them now. Prefer the two layer little ones.
These are the best I've found in years. Grocery Outlet had bunches for a while. I picked up two 12 packs. I should look for another. Lativian ones, which remind me of Riga Gold sprats, also very tasty.
