Had a pretty good elk season over-all, done better done worse. Started in August helping a couple friends with cows. Friend of mine from Illinois had never shot an elk before, we remedied that opening day: I snuck out on a day off and had this one killed and back to the truck by noon, 6mm Rem. 90 grain accubond 194 yards: Next was general tag hunt with 2 friends. Day 3 I shot this one, 247 yards with my 7-08 140 AB: Day 5 my buddy shot this one with a 7 RM at about 70 yards: Last day of the general season, my friend killed this cow, about 12 days before his 80th birthday. He tried out my 7-08 worked well for him, easy shot 120 yards: That wrapped up the general season. Next was hunting late season here in WY with cow and bull tags with some friends/family. My buddy Jeff and I both shot our 3rd elk of the year out of a herd of 400 or so. My buddies cow, 207 yards with a 300 RUM: Mine same distance with 7-08, my 80th elk:

(cont.) more late season elk for my NR friends and my nephew. They had a good day, all shoot 7 RM's and the shots were all between 200-300 yards they shot 3 bulls and 2 cows by 2 PM. The two cows they shot, the guy that didn't shoot a cow chose not too...figured 5 in one day was enough, probably right. Finally after a bunch of delays, picked up my nephew in Billings and got back in time for a 1/2 day hunt. Saw 35 elk, all bulls and he shot this one just before dark at 127 yards with his 7-08 and 120 grain ballistic tip. Broke the spine and exited upper 1/3rd of the body, done deal dropped in its tracks and his 3rd elk and first bull. There were 5 bulls together, 2 six points the same age class as his, but both were busted up pretty bad so, he chose the best 5 point. Lots of game bags filled: Always sort of sorry its over, but was getting pretty tired of quartering and packing elk. Have a friend with one more cow tag valid through January probably give him a hand if he wants to get another one. All total went 13/15 may get 14/15 as one of my IL friends may come back after Christmas...we'll see.

That's a lot of elk to take care of, no doubt. Lots of happy people when they open their freezers though.
Well done!

Nice going Buzz. Saw a big herd out in the flats off of 34 Saturday, Laramie side, if you need to find some cows this week.

Nothing like shooting a bunch of cows to thin the herd for the following years. Congrats!

Well done.
I love hearing about 7mm-08 killing elk.

Excellent! I always admire the sheer number of elk you and your friends/family take in a year.

Nothing like shooting a bunch of cows to thin the herd for the following years. Congrats! The herds those cows come from have been growing by 3-5% a year ever since I've lived in Wyoming. High cow/calf ratio's and flat harvest numbers.
