What are the forums thoughts on the Henry Long Ranger rifles? I handled one for the first time the other day in the gun shop and they look really nice, almost like a BLR. Not all blocky and gaudy like the big boys and golden boys etc. Seemed like a really nice rifle. Fit and finish was great, handling was great. Anybody have one or use one? Looked like they would be a couple of hundred less than a BLR.

I have one in 5.56 / 223 with sights and a 3x - 9x Leupold. Very nice wood. The trigger is a little stiffer than I would prefer, but getting better with use. It's fairly heavy, which makes sense I guess, since they use the same barrel profile for all the Long Rangers, but the 223 has the smallest hole in it. Seems quite a bit heavier than the alloy BLRs. It gets a lot of attention at the range when both traditional lever guys and the AR guys figure out I'm shooting 223s.

Looking into one myself - thanks for the info. I had a BLR in 308 that started to get stiff in the action (maybe my impressions, maybe dirty???) I traded it and got a Sako 85 that I like, but I still have a special spot for the lever. I should have bought one of the NIB Savage 99's when I had the chance.... I cannot find one to handle, but it also looks like the trigger is not part of the lever, which I liked on the BLR. It also looks like it has a small hammer, probably easily fixed. I've looked them over. Unfortunately they don't come in anything that interests me right now.
But the 4 or 5 that I've looked over have all been nicely put together and good looking rifles.

A good friend has one he asked me to sell. It's in 243 nice wood, not great but nice, he's got a leupold scope on it, have to look again at the scope. I'm going to shoot it in a couple of weeks, thinking I might buy it off him. Not sure if I'd like a 243 tho. Any thoughts?

-Jake I saw this thread and came here to say this. But, looks like I already did. That's all.
