I’d be hard pressed before I give up my slicked up custom stainless Rossi 92 in .44 magnum. Just does so many things well.

I'd consider a Marlin Lever in .35 Remington.

I would get a used Pre64 Model 94 Win in 30-30 with an octagon barrel and then send it to Turnbull Restorations to completely restore. You are at an age where you could do it once and right and really have a nice rifle. Your other option is to find a really nice savage 99 in 300 Savage in an F or an eg and send it also. It might cost you 1-2 K to do their magic but you would then have a one of a kind rifle.

I think For iron sight use I would go with a pre 64 94 in 30.30.. In fact I have one, carries great shoots well too.

I am not sure which way I would go for a scoped rifle. One of the marlin 336's in 35rem, a good marlin with the gold trigger. Or a savage 99 in 300 savage. If tradition isn't part of the mix a BLR in 358.

Savage 99 in 308 and both Browning 92's in 44 or 357, the Brownings are slicker and lighter and easy to carry, and plenty of pop out to 100 yds or a little more, beyond that,I prefer the Savage 99.

Enough already, just shoot it!

I'm not a big lever fan, but that BLR is the best of the bunch for all the reasons you mention and a few you didn't.

The only downside of them is a crappy trigger and a very low comb for scope use.

I prefer classic.

Savage 99 F’s or DL’s in 300 sav, 308 W, .358 W, .243 W.

There are definitely Marlins, BLR’s, an Winchester’s too.

I went straight from bolts into 99 levers so I am biased .

Have read that .284 W is great in the 99 too. Maybe best. But I can’t speak to it.

They're not my favorite but wink there's a few in the safe that 'get the call' on occassion. A couple of Marlins, a 444S in 444 and a GBL in 45-70. But my favorite lever gun/calibre combo is a Winchester model 71 deluxe in 348 WCF grin grin.

Sako Finnwolf in.308. The real Cadillac of lever rifles. Hard to find and not cheap, but I really think it's the best lever ever manufactured.

That being said, I hunt PA whitetails with Savage 99F in .300 Savage and have never felt undergunned.

While reading this thread I realized while I love levers I hate Rolls Royce and Cadillacs. And the rifles that correlate to them. Give me a Winchester or Marlin and I'm fine

The M ‘95 in 45-70 is too heavy for me as is the 444 at 7.5 lbs before any attachments for a walking deer hunter. I’ve had the BLR and the M 94 in 44 too, both being a very handy rifles, but my M 44 had a propensity to absolutely frozen jams.

So, I don’t know.

I hear ya on levers in general - you must be a dyed in the wool bolt guy as well. I’ve always wanted to love levers but haven’t ever found a bride.

Opps blush. My memory is a little lacking. In my previous post I neglected to mention my latest recent lever gun addition to the safe. A model 95 Winchester in 303Br. It hasn't seen any field use, wink yet.

Nothing wrong with the .30-30. But if you want more power Turnbull will build you up a .50-110. Load up some 535gr A-Frames and flatten some little TX deer. I grind the noses down to about 520gr mostly because the 1886/71 is very OAL limited and I'd rather have the powder space but that isn't strictly necessary. They won't be too dead...

Or if you want something pedestrian get a BLR or Long Ranger laugh

I’m a Marlin lever gun guy, for sure. That said, I’d give consideration to Henry’s Long Ranger. It is a similar gun to the Browning BLR.
