I have a buddy looking for a model 99 250-3000 with the 1-10 twist. Is there a serial number range for them? If not, what other markings should he look for to be sure it is the fast twist. I know he could check the twist with a patch on a cleaning rod, but that's not easily done at gun shows. Thanks Added thought- Other than GB and other gun auctions, are there any other sites he should watch?

As a rule of thumb, there were only 5 Savage 99s cataloged in 250-3000 with 1-10" ROT barrels.
99A. 99CD, 99DL, 99E, and 99F.
99DLs and tang safety 99Fs in 250-3000 are rare. In over 40 years of thinking about 99s, I've seen 3 DLs and probably fewer than 10 99Fs.
It is almost certain that some non-cataloged styles of 99s were made in 250-3000 during the mid-1980s when Savage was assemblying 99s from parts that were in the warehouse, but being non-cataloged configurations, there is no way to be sure what the ROT would be.

Yep.. what Jeff said. The 99A and 99CD are probably the only two models you'll have luck finding in 250, and the 99CD isn't that easy.

My 99CDs that came in 250-300 and now chambered in 257AI and 25-284. Both of them came from the same shop in Rick99's neighborhood, High Plains Gun Shop in Topeka, one in 1991 and the other in 1993.

Sometimes replacement barrels for older guns could be the 1-10". I know I know.... but it happens. I guess you'd be able to identify them by the Westfield barrel address?

I have a '59 99F in .250, with a 10.25 twist, that I bought from Roy. It has a Chickopee Falls address. 959XXX

Roy, I'll take it if he doesn't. I have a 250-3000 24" 1 in 10 TD barrel with a Westfield barrel address. I had it fitted to a 99G action. It's the rifle I killed an antelope with this year.

I also have a '59 99F, not EG, in 308 with very good condition. Looks like it was bought and put away for 60 years before I acquired it. I paid $700, opening bid, 2 years ago. It's just 6 digits from the 99F .250 I posted above.

But I need a pristine 308 EG for my collection. Have I ever mentioned that I have at least one each of every caliber the EG was produced in? Those calibers were: 22H-P, 303, 30-30, 250-3000, 300, 308, 243 and 358. I got several of the rarer ones from members here but not the 22H-P. No other model was produced in this wide range of calibers.

My buddy just text me. He got the 308 EG for $635.

you are lucky texken. I'm sure that is the rarest EG caliber. Roy, I'll give him $700.
