I'd like another shotgun barrel and MGM says they aren't making any more "for the foreseeable future." I don't need a rib or a choke just a plain barrel with a bead front sight on the muzzle, at least 18 1/2" long. I might even be able to provide a .410* barrel blank.

Any ideas?

*No, I really don't want to talk about why I want a another .410!

Be aware that Ed is hard to get in touch with and his website is not up to date. I did speak with him last week regarding some TCR barrels he has listed on his website but they are all gone and have been for a while.

Ed's TC's normally sets up at the spring and fall Wanamaker Tulsa Arms Show. The next show is in early April.

I'm gonna keep looking (haven't found anything yet). I had one made by MGM back when they were making them and (foolishly) traded it back when I ASSumed they would become a standard offering. Kept my MGM 28-bore one, which is actually a decent quail gun, and apparently harder to find than the .410.

I don't wingshoot with .410s any more since the lead shot ban came into effect in CA. But I do like to have one in my cabin for snakes and small critters that try to get the place "rent free." And a .410 is about the best gun there is for rabbits, squirrels, and fool hens, and not bad for self defense if the load is the W-W 3" 000 buckshot.

If I can't find one at a reasonable price, I may look for a ratty .44 Mag barrel and try to talk some gunsmith out of removing the rifling and rechambering for 3" .410. (Or is that taboo to dear 'ol Uncle Sugar?). Don't need a long barrel or a rib or choke--I've found that for most purposes except wingshooting the best choke for .410 is....none at all.

You can legally remove the rifling if the barrel is more than 18". Have you thought of a 20" .45-70 barrel? I think a .410 will chamber & fire in a .45-70 as is, so lose the rifling and you're there.

David Van Horn sometimes has had them in stock.

The factory ones for the g2 were 23" long

Thanks to both of you. I have thought of a .45-70 barrel for this project, mainly because it's so close to a .410, but also because they come up used pretty often. I have found that many people who buy .45-70s change their minds after firing them a bit--they are great hunting guns but not-so-great range guns for many people unless they handload, especially in such a light rifle as a Contender. Firing the full blast loads enough to really get friendly with the rifle is too much for many, which is why Uncle Sugar made a lighter load for cavalry carbines.

(Full disclosure: I'm one of those weenies--my beautiful Ruger #3 ended up a .250-3000 ....).

I'd keep an eye on Gunbroker and Ebay for a 410 barrel. I foolishly didn't grab an MGM 410 or 28ga when they were making them, so had to hunt around a fair bit for the one I wanted. I'd had a Super 16 410/45 barrel and really liked it with a folding stock frame but it patterned so wide open it was useless past 10 yards. Few months back I found a nice 21" 410 barrel with removable choke on ebay. Shoots way better than the Super 16 so really happy with it. It was overpriced like everything these days but thankfully I was able to sell the Super 16 and then get the 21" barrel for not a whole lot more.
