Easy question - Echols Legend in .300 H&H
One and done - sell everything else! I am not likely to ever hunt any of the Big 5 in Africa so this would do quite nicely.

Factory rifle? Probably something in a Sako 75.

Give Mr. Echols a call and chat about a wood stocked 404J...
It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

Remington 700 BDL Varmint Special 6mm Remington. Old style with the scrolling on the ends of the checkering job. Like this one. Buddy of mine brought that exact rifle over to my house yesterday. Had the block to mount a unerring out on the barrel. 1971 mfg date if I read the numbers on the barrel correctly.

I have it already. Mauser 98 .404 Jeffery. Love the character of that stock. What am I looking at in the background?

Ralf Martini custom mauser in a 416 Rigby would be a bespoke custom rifle that would be my choice of a rifle created. Jack O'Connor's Number 2 made by Al Biesen in 270 WCF would be my choice of a historic rifle.

Echols Legend in 35 Whelen.
Okie John I believe the OP said it was okay, so I’d do a switch barrel myself. 270/280 and 35 Whelen.

Echols Legend in 35 Whelen.
Okie John I believe the OP said it was okay, so I’d do a switch barrel myself. 270/280 and 35 Whelen. Switch barrels are allowed. Especially if 280 is involved. 280 - 35 Whelen is the most American rifle-looney thing I can think of.

I'm really torn here, probably either a nicely engraved Heym 37b double rifle drilling in 9,3x74r or a fully kitted out Kesslerin with the good wood and fancy inlaid gold threads.

Heck I wished I had the two rifles built 20 years ago and restrained buying the herd I have. Life would’ve been a little easier.

Echols Legend in 35 Whelen.
Okie John I'd probably put that high on the list, but I'd opt for .30-06. I went back and forth a couple of times. I went 35 Whelen because the OP said ...obscure chambering is no issue because ammo/components/having components made for the one rifle falls under the budget... Without that, definitely 30-06. Okie John
If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.
