My first brand new big game rifle was a 99EG 308. The year was 1959 when I was 16. It cost 95 dollars. I could shoot a 3 inch group with the openn sights, later that year I mounted a 2.5 Weaaver and it would shoot about 1.5 inches. I killed a coyote at 210 yards and a cow moose at about 150 yards. The thing kicked like a friggin mule with the steel buttplate so I traded it off in 1960 for a M70 338 Win. I hope somewon is still enjoying this fine old rifle. As John Barsness says, there are are a lot better thaings to put on the back of a stock than metal or hard plastic.
