I have a leup 1.5x5-20 with the German #4 reticle laying around. That's likely what I would put on a whelen. That’s what graces mine 30mm tube, illuminated center dot kraut #4 Works well for my needs.

Rem 700 CDL has a Zeiss Conquest 3-9×40. Awesome scope in my opinion. The Whelen isn't just a short range brush gun as some believe. Best of luck

Mine is a 700 Classic in an early factory synthetic stock. It currently has a 4x Leupold in steel Redfield-type rings and bases for a total weight of 7 pounds, 12 ounces. When you load the 35 Whelen to its full potential with data from Speer and some of the threads on the 'fire, it kicks like a 338 WM. I'm thinking of adding a Nightforce 3-10x42 SHV with the illuminated reticle to extend the range and because the extra weight will help slow down the recoil.

My Ruger M77RS has a Z3 3-10x42 with #4 reticle. I'm in between scopes on my 700 Classic right now. Trying to decide between a Kahles 2-7x36 duplex and a Z3 3-9x36 #4.

Mine has a Meopta Meopro on it. I believe it's a 3.5-10x44.

Quality 2.5-10 covers all your needs
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I went with the Athlon Helos BTR Gen2 2-12x42 FFP with illuminated #4 style reticle. I’m really liking this scope and I love the reticle. At low power it acts like a #4 red dot. Locking turrets and zero stop might be overkill on a Whelen but it does allow one to stretch the round a bit. It’s not a light scope but durability and reliability were more important to me for this rifle than weight was. My next Whelen will wear either a Zeiss or Meopta but I do plan on getting another Helos for a .338 I’m building.

Can’t remember exact model but it’s a 1.5-6x40 Burris with an Illuminated reticle. It fits the rifle well and the illumination is great on darker species and seems to help a little when scope is turned down for quick snap shots.

I'd be inclined to get a Nightforce NX8 1-8x24mm F1. ...or maybe a M8 or a Davari if I didn't want to spend that much.
Maybe a Super Chicken if you can find one.
