I own nearly a dozen pot calls (glass, crystal, slate, aluminum) and never had a glass crack while conditioning them. The first Rare Breed I got came cracked. I went ahead and conditioned it anyway with the crack in it. I got a second Rare Breed and went to condition it with the included sand paper. Three strokes. POP! Another crack. Not sure what kind of glass Primos is putting in these calls, but it does not stand up. Seems like it's cheap picture frame quality glass. And no, I was not pressing too hard. As I write this, it has popped two more times just sitting here, both where the sand paper scored the glass. Junk. First one that came cracked. The one I just got and opened a few minutes ago. It now has three cracks in it.

It is rare to find one without a crack.
I was thinking the other day how much I used to hate Bill Clinton. He was freaking George Washington compared to what they are now.

I roughed the surface, then POP while I was roughing it. Set it down and it spontaeously cracked two more time without touching it. That's a hallmark of cheap clear glass. Score and it break along the score.

Cracking has nothing to do with glass quality.

Nonsense. Sanding glass is nothing more than scoring (scratching) it dozens of times at once in one pass. Some glass doesn't crack when its scratched. Cheap glass does. I literally ran a piece of supplied sandpaper across the glass and it cracked along one of the scratches. I've never had any other calls do that. And for it to happen twice, on the same model of call, suggests to me Primos is using some cheap glass in these calls.

If you cracked it sanding it the glass was already cracked....or stressed by design.
What puzzles me is why anyone would put out a glass call that the entire surface wasn't already conditioned.

I have several different ones, and none have ever cracked after much sanding and use in hot hot and cold cold weather and wagging around in rough terrain. IMO it's just sh*tty quality glass
( all that said, every one will probably split next use)

I'm thinking you're right. I've made a fair number of friction calls. If the ridge/ledge the playing surface sits on is not level for some reason..........and you glue and clamp the surface in.........it will be pre-loaded with a stress when the gle dries and the clamp comes off. If it's bad enough, the surface will crack fairly easily.

The could have been a chip or the beginnings of a crack in the edge of the glass that spread. If Primos won't replace them, I may pull the glass out and play with replacing it with something myself.

Funny thing is, the first call with a single crack sounds great. I finished conditioning it and the edges produce nice tones. The center section, just below the crack, is a mute spot unless I press hard on the striker.
