I know the under $300 range of binos isn’t exactly high end. But I’m looking for some extra 8x42s in this price range and would very much like to avoid made in China. So far all I’ve found are the Pentax SD 8x42 binoculars, which are made in the Philippines. Obviously my choices will expand a bit if I go used.

I would look for a used Burris Signature HD. They're excellent, and made by Kamakura in Japan.
When first introduced several years ago they retailed for around $300, but the price went up as more people bought 'em and the word got around. But you should be able to pick up a used 8x42 for $300.

Stiener makes an autofocus for around that price, not sure where it's made. Excellent glass though.

I bought two of these MIJ Karl Kaps 8 x 42 . With shipping to me in Hawaii, under $300.00 each. Good stuff. https://www.kaps-zielfernrohre.de/en/binoculars-842/p-8/?kat=5With Bak4 prisms.

Have you considered buying a clean set of used ones on Ebay?

I would love those Burris Signatures but Muledeer is right - they are going for more like $400
However, the Droptines are phase correct index matched and dielectric coated with aluminum eye cups and are about $250 or so. Made in Philippines I have read. If you aren't familiar with Burris stuff not made in china I can endorse it as a heck of a lot for what you pay. Not seen them myself but would feel very comfortable getting them I have yet to be disappointed by any Burris product I have tried over the years.

Have you considered buying a clean set of used ones on Ebay? For sure, I’m definitely in the used market as well. It can be harder to evaluate used binoculars, at least for me.

I was in the same boat before Christmas but wanted 8x32 or 10x32. Finally ran across Sig Zulu 3 on closeout and got them for my wife. I honestly don’t know how they rank with the bino pros but for anything but long term searching they seem to be well worth the price. Paid around $200 in hand because of the mark down. They’re put together in the Philippines. https://www.gunbroker.com/Binoculars/search?Keywords=Sig%20Zulu%203&Sort=13
