Offer your thoughts.
I have a fantastic GA Precision Crusader built off a Defiance Rebel Action in .308. It is in very good condition with a relatively low round count for a 308, less than 3000 rounds. It shoots as you would expect it to. I am weighing my options to either sell the rifle intact or break it down and use the action for a new build (primary hunting rifle).
I would be able to sell the McMillan A-5, Timney trigger, Bartlein barrel, titan brake, badger bottom metal, AI mags (2), rail, rings, etc. I would also sell the S&B PMII scope currently on it. All in very good condition.
With the lack of interest in 308s these days and the flood of precision rifles on the market I am not sure I would get what the rifle is worth.

Are you wanting to thin the herd or just no longer interested in .308? You have some great components there. Why not put a new carbon barrel on in the caliber that interests you?

I would either just rebarrel it or sell it as a complete rifle.

Love the 308 but I no longer shoot FTR. Looking to build a short barrel 308 hunting rifle.

I'd just pull the barrel and replace it. Maybe a Proof carbon in 308, mainly for the lightweight. You may be able to do a prefit, I asked Proof the same and they said the Ruckus Proof Prefit would fit my Tenacity, as long as my bolt face is recessed, which it is. Otherwise, you may be able to order a barrel to fit your existing stock inlay and go from there.

Yeah, the proof carbon pre-fit 20" might be perfect for it. I installed one on an anti action and it stacked bullets with a generic load. All I did was sight it in, check drops, and take it hunting. I really want to make it a 7-08 so I'll cut you a deal on the barrel that's got less than 50 rounds through it if you want to try it.

Proof prefits won’t screw on to a Templar/Rebel action, as they don’t have guaranteed .001 headspace.

If you like the rifle, but have lost the love for the 308:
1. sell the whole rifle and buy what you want 2. rebarrel to fill a hole in your safe - 260/6.5cm/6.5x47L/243/243ai/6cm/22cm/22cheetah/338fed/6slr - too many options 3. part it out and buy what you want 4. park it in the back of the safe and you may come around and re-discover it in a few years (but I doubt it). I've got a GREAT shooting Kimber Tactical 308 sitting in the back of the safe (the one with the sweet black and dark green mcswirley A5) that I just can't bring myself to sell, but I never shoot it.
As long as you don't have a gluttony of other customs, I'd rebarrel it to something I would shoot more.

I have not lost love for the 308. For my needs it is hard to beat.
I simply have no further use for it in a heavy tactical platform. I no longer shoot FTR matches. I do have interest in a well built 308 hunting rifle.

[quote=Kimber7man]Proof prefits won’t screw on to a Templar/Rebel action, as they don’t have guaranteed .001 headspace. If you find a good ‘smith, you can ship action to him only once and he can then produce shouldered “prefits”.

One thing to keep in mind if you are planning on building another rifle is, finding a custom action is not easy right now. Defiance is over a year lead time right now. Most others are at least 3-6 months.
