Well, I was setting up my 1000 to 1500 yard range the other day and my Nikon 1000 just wasn't cutting it. I've used that thing on some hunts and ranged animals at over 700 yards with it. It works great out to about that distance and I like the angle comp feature, but now I need a better range finder and am seriously thinking about the Leica. I looked at one the other day, but the red display seemed to fade out in the sunlight. This was in the store looking out the store window, so it is probably totally different/better in the field. They have been out for a couple years now, how are yours treating you? I also like the simplicity of the Leica. Not cluttered with ballistic info and priced very well at around $550.

I bought one when they first came out, so I’ve had it a few seasons. It has worked flawlessly in all conditions. I’ve ranged deer over 1000 and elk and cows to 1300-1400. Trees and rocks over 2000.

I love mine. Haven’t had a problem with sunlight. Ranged deer in good light at 1,400 yards — or at least the ground around them. Optics are great, and I prefer the simple factor.

Great reviews on this range finder guys. I ended up buying one and it works perfectly. I'd have to say I love how it works vs. what I have been using. My Nikon 1000 worked fine for me in years past, but I was ranging deer and rocks and steel targets out to 700 yards. The Nikon was slow, but worked in the canyons and I really liked the angle comp feature, but this Leica is night and day different. The Leica has ranged to 2317 yards on things like bushes and dirt piles and buildings, but buildings are easy. I ranged a cow in the distance at 1800 yards and it was fast. This one also has the angle comp feature. I'm glad I made this purchase. It makes it very easy to range my steel plate at 1,000 and 1,400 yards:
[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]
I also received $100.00 in coupons with the purchase of this unit. Just bought some reloading components a while ago. 2 pounds of Longshot powder, 2 boxes of 6mm Barnes varmint grenades and 1 box of Barnes TSX 140gr 7mm bullets for a grand total of $83.00... Hard to beat that in store incentive program...

Thanks again for your comments.

I’m going to need a new rangefinder. My Leica LRF 1200 is obviously way outdated. Last I was paying attention, the Sig was the one everyone had to have. Has the Leica moved back out in front?

Jealous about your setup BSA. As you know the BLM clearcuts are a moving target... I have had “several” good setups but they are all grown up in reprod now. I need to find my next one. When you factor in reasonably easy access to the plates, it gets tricky.

Jeff, I can honestly say I really like this rangefinder. Haven't had it for very long, but it has been working great. I'm impressed with how it ranges things like a dirt bank at 2317 yards. Or a bush at 2,000 yards. It just works and its simple. Has excellent glass and a good digital read out. The other day I set up a paper target at 600 yards. Ranged it very easily, which was important because I was getting ready for a varmint silhouette shoot and needed to be spot on. I hear you about shooting in Oregon and in places like the coast range. Scidt grows up so fast around there. Where I'm at now has not changed in years. I used to hunt chuckar in these small canyons when I was a kid and they look the same as they did 30 years ago:

Unlike most places in Oregon. There are a lot of places to shoot long range here. This is where I grew up and learned to shoot. Glad to be back... A lot of guys here also shoot long range. This is where I was Saturday. Had a blast buddy:

As for your Leica 1200, how is it "outdated"? I'm sure it still works like a champ, but if you are looking for something with more range, don't overlook the Leica 2400. Its a good one. If I ever need to shoot a mile+ or so, I know I will be in good hands with this LRF.

Is that a 1st-gen Tundra with BFG AT’s I see there? If so, TFF. That’s muh truck! Mine’s an ’06, bought it new. I’m about due for another set of BFG’s... they will be set #3.... looks like I get about 65k out of a set. I’ll get them fancy new sidewalls on these next ones, haha.

My LRF 1200 still does everything it ever did, but I’m ready for an upgrade, and from what I hear, it’ll be a big upgrade! Cool. 👍 Also cool that Leica remains competitive.

Still running strong and 22 years old this year. Goes anywhere I point it. I've been running duratracs on it though. Great tire and snow rated. Been pulling out Fords and Chebbys with it the last couple months.... Those K02 BFG'S are great tires though. I looked into them last fall, but decided to go with the Goodyears instead. Here's the big azzed target I used to get dialed in on the 600 yard line.. Then I shot the smaller 7x11" white paper target in the previous post. Those 1" dots are easy to see with the SHV...

I love my truck. Pulls my 20’ Hewes just fine. Just helped my kid buy her first truck- 2013 Taco with 61k miles. Love me some Toyota. My truck isn’t as straight as yours; only put, what, about 8k mikes/year on her, but they are typically “truck” miles... in particular getting the yearly 3-4 cords of firewood has led to some little dents and whatnot. But hey, she’s gettin’ used.... you don’t see too many Tundras, or ANY truck these “soft” days, going full hillbilly like below!

So are you up around Pendleton now? Sure love that area. Finding good long-range spots would sure be easy. But my latest obsession- ocean fishing- wouldn’t be very doable. smile

Cool stuff. I put 700 miles on mine last Saturday. Speaking of "hillbillies", at the match Saturday, my group was talking about some that went to the shoot last month. Equipped with their Leupold CDS scopes and ready to whip everyone's azz. I guess it was embarrassing. I won't go into details, but sometimes it's not a good thing being a hillbilly. When I want to go ocean fishing, I just hop in my buddies Dory and we go out pacific city. I'm in Nevada right now. Many places here to shoot long range and there are guys that love shooting too. I have a 400 yard range that has some nice benches and the best thing is its peaceful:
[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]
The 3" targets get boring, but there's always the steel yote to shoot at:
[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

100 yard range that is very nice:
[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

No membership fees either. Just a nice public place to shoot. Then when I want to shoot long, I have the desert and mountains and also a range east of where I live:
[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

Didn't bring my Leica last Saturday, but used my Nikon 1000 to check yardages on the different silhouettes. It worked fine on the targets I shot at. 611 yards on the yote was the furthest one I had to range and the Nikon did as expected. Just like it did in the Deschutes canyons. Where the Leica really shines is past 800 yards or so and then there is a night and day difference.

Nevada! Nice. I’ve been there a lot lately. My kid (who just bought the Taco) was based out of Ely last year and we visited.

No shortage of places to shoot in NV.

And people will still give him a pass like that worthless BrentD and all the other leftist bastards that hate America but like to shoot. Then you have the other losers that forgive them because they do shoot and have lost sight of what is right and wrong.

The patsy’s that still befriend them aren’t much better.

Liar. I have never in my LIFE made an anti-gun post. Period.

Let’s see..... I’m extremely pro-gun, I am not left-wing, I am not unemployed, and I am not addicted to drugs.

Might be a moron though. Lol

I bought one 2 years ago, used it off my porch in snow, rain and fog. It’s fast, and I think accurate, have hunted (5) states since, haven’t used it once. Maybe I need Binos with a rangefinder? Hell I dunno it’s so confusing these days….

I have both a Leica 2400 and a Sig 2200 or 2400. Years of abuse and the Leica still is able to range 900-1000yds. The Sig? Lucky if I still range [bleep] to 700.
