Any carrying one of these guys in the 16.5in barrel? I picked on up years ago in stainless/laminate 260, I foolishly sold it to a buddy because at the time I was obsessed with only having rifles that shot sub MOA. I never took into consideration the short pencil thin barrel.

II have a few of them in different chamberings. With the right loads I can get them to shoot around and inch or so. Have not found a gun that is more handy in a box blind and my longest shot in the area I hunt would be about 300 yards. To date the longest shot I have had to take at a deer with one of the rifles is around 150 yards an most have been under 100 yards. They can be a bit loud but not the worst I have ever shot.

There is a reason why you never hear of anyone shooting a 308 winchester AI.... It can't be improved upon!! Molon Labe

20” is my bottom limit for barrel length on CF’s, except pistol-cartridge carbines and .223 semis. Had an 18.5” .308 50 years ago (guess which one) and nothing I’ve experienced since makes me want anything else like that, unless suppressed. Ya’ll go ahead, just stay at the other end of the benches please.

Had one just like you describe. Foolishly loaned it to a friends granddaughter. After 3 years she finally got me to sell it to her but have missed it ever since. And by the way, it shot less than an inch, when I did my part. Never noticed the noise everyone else describes. Just like a normal rifle to me.

Some mornings, it just does not feel worth it to chew through the straps!~

Hunted with a guy's kid who had one in 708 with the 16.5" barrel. Very handy, but also very loud.

My wife has a 243 Compact. She loves it.

The muzzle flash is impressive at dusk. She shot a mule deer at dusk one time. She looked at me and said my gun just blew up!!!

Barrel length and contour, mean largely dick nothing,in regards to Accuracy and/or Precision. Hint...........

.............................Yep! Have a Ruger Frontier chambered in 300 WSM. A handy 'lil beast. Bedded, floated and quite accurate. Aside from being shorter and much handier, its other appeal is that I can use either a conventionally mounted scope or a scout scope.

My kids shoot a compact in .243. Will keep 85 TSXs between 1-1.5" which is far more accurate then the 10 year olds pulling the trigger in field conditions...

When they get a little bigger they usually shoot this 7mm-08 Frontier with a heavier barrel. A compact 7-08 with the little pencil barrel is a handful...the Frontier is very manageable with 120 NBTs and 140 NABs. The Frontier is considerably more accurate then the compact (easy sub-MOA with a variety of loads).

i have two of the frontier rifles. a 7/08 and a 338 fed. they have the 16.5" barrel but its thicker than the pencil barrels that were on the compacts. they both shoot unbelievable good. i have one set up with a scout scope and the other with a leupold 1.5-4.5x20.

...............Well well Ssssssssssstik....I see that your immaturity has never really left you. Amazing how you can have so much knowledge about rifles and such which I will not deny and yet be so damned immature....And by the way. Easy for a coward such as yourself to type on a keyboard your above comments from the safety of about 3500 mi away from So Cal.

Well if you ever happen to be in So Cal Sssssssssssstik then please PM me. I would absolutely love for you to say the same comments directly to my face, face to face and nose to nose. You would not get through the first two or three syllables before being thoroughly planted on the ground..........Ya got some big ones sitting in front of your computer there Sssssssssstik......And that is where it or they stop and your cowardice begins.

I've had one in 308 and 7-08. Great little rifles. Didnt notice any recoil or blast than any other rifle but I tend to shoot 20 or so inch barreled rifles anyway.. Accurate plenty enough for deer. It's one of those I wish I had back deals. Best of luck
