Seems some USPS worker education is required.. Yep! From the regs: To meet this federal requirement, Retail Associates must complete PS Form 8105-A, Funds Transaction Report, when selling $3,000 or more of postal financial instruments to the same customer in the same dayAt banks the cash withdrawal limit used to be $10K, then reduced to $5K, now heading further south. They're coming for every transaction as stated above. Wake up Amerika!

I prefer personal checks. I use the mobile app on my iPad, snap a photo of front and rear of check and away it goes. Usually in my account within a day or two.
My local PO won't cash a MO over about $40 cause they no no cash on hand. I end up sending it to my bank and waiting for it to clear.

The $3K+ documentation requirement has been in place for several years. Nothing new.

This must be why my post office has been out of money orders all week long.

Personal checks are fine as long as they clear your bank before you ship.

Couple months ago I went in post office to get several money orders totaling about $3000. The guy said I had to fill out a bunch of paperwork, but suggested, “why don’t you get part of the money orders here and the rest at another post office” I took his advice. I happen to live fairly close to several post offices.

Usps money orders blow anyway. Half the time the post office don’t have the funds to cash them, at least the ones by me. And they aren’t for an unreasonable amount. Banks have plenty of money. Wouldn’t even consider going to the post office to cash it.

Point that site out to them if they ask you to do it. If they say it changed, ask for a formal notice showing it. If they hassle you, contact the postmaster. Some counter employees think they are the be all and end all.. that is not so.

I've been using personal checks, both home and on the road. Figured if I lived without that item, a few more days won't hurt.
