Why is this in America's national interest? And obviously there are all kinds of issues attached to that. But for someone who doesn't understand the relevance this and why we are spending as much time focusing on this as we are, what would you say?
SNYDER: Well, I think there is a basic human impulse to care when a smaller people is invaded by a larger people for no reason at all. But beyond that, we in the United States, along with our partners and friends around the world, live the way we do things to a certain peaceful order based on law and predictability and our economy, our way of life as well as our freedom - and depend upon that continuing. The single most brutal way to violate that is for one country to invade another country for no reason, which is what is happening here. So if we care - I mean, some people in America don't care about democracy, and I'm not going to reach them. But for those of us who do, democracy rises and falls all around the world, and Ukraine is a democracy that's being attacked by a tyranny.

Do we need further examples of this closer to home than the recent authoritarian actions by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau or the extra-constitutional actions by what is euphemistically called “the January 6 Committee” in the US Congress? Stand in the way of the Deep State administrative managers, and you get suppressed, cancelled, and arrested, and held in a Federal jail for months without bail or trial.

I’m not defending Russia. But Putin has reasons. Unfortunately the US gave him the most and most important. The friggin circus freak show in power here has done nothing sane since arriving.

Russia and Putin make money off selling oil and gas. Biden ham strung the oil and gas industry by cancelling the pipeline construction, stopping drilling and fracking on government land out west, and stopping some drilling offshore and in Alaska. Much of it was already approved and cancelled. This made us dependent on the Arabs again. Under Trump we became an exporter of liquid natural gas to Germany. Now they have to buy it from Russia. If Russia wasn't making money, they can't afford their military.
Ukraine has uranium, iron, tin, titanium, gas and oil reserves. They also are the 3rd or 4th leading exporter of food, like wheat, potatoes, and corn. Much of this went to Western Europe and to Russia also in trade deals. Ukraine was operating as a democracy and had opened up to capitalism after the fall of communism. Sure they had a lot of corruption in their government and their oil and gas industry. They were trying to buy their way into NATO and the European Union because they wanted to be western and not under Russia's thumb. My wifes family comes from the Ukraine. They left during the early part of the 20th century. Their family hated the Russians and communism. They even sent money to their relatives when Ukraine was under Soviet Rule, because they were in such need of things they couldn't afford due to price and wage controls put on by the communists. It made everyone equally poor and miserable. Only communist party members had privileges. For the last 30 years they have tasted freedom, democracy, and plenty of goods.
Now, why do we really care. Well, western Europe is dependent on Russian oil and gas right now. Because of Bidens blunders here at home regarding oil and gas, and making western Europe dependent of Russian natural gas, this is driving prices of gasoline, oil and natural gas up in the United States because we are now importing it. Then this drives up shipping costs, production costs of things made with oil and gas. It drives up processed foods due to canning of foods using natural gas. So food, transportation, plastics, glass making, and 30% of our electricity is made from natural gas, so everything is going to see HIGH INFLATION.
