Hopefully somebody with a LA Kimber has encountered the same issue.

In one of my backpack rifles, a Kimber 84L Hunter in 280AI, if I load to mag length the action length won’t allow a live round to be ejected. This is obviously problematic as shorter COL’s do not shoot to my standards.

Main questions are 1. Do you think taking a little metal (1/8th” maybe) off the front of the action would compromise the action integrity? 2. Would a competent gunsmith touch it?

Another option may be to shortening the ejector but that may compromise proper ejection.

Really would like to keep running this load as it shoots consistently in the 5’s and 6’s from a 6lb stick.

I know photos would help but I can’t figure out how to post them on here anymore.

You can't just drop out the floor plate.

There is no floor plate on a Hunter and CRF won’t release the rim anyways

As long as the lengthened port wouldn't cause any issues with the extractor or ejection, I can't imagine it would be a problem.

Take a look at some of the Stiller actions like the Tac30. They have a small forward scallop for just this reason. A good 'smith could do it either way and it would look factory.

+1 Al. There are a number of custom actions with either an enlarged port or a notch cut for this reason. Come to think of it I think factory weatherby rifles have a notch cut and Christensen rifles have an enlarged ejection port and those are just Rem700 actions.

I think I've seen a few kamfeld jobs on 700's for this same reason.
