K, bought a Stevens 85 that is factory drilled for the peep sight on the left side because I always wanted to actually use a Boone scope.

Gun came in today, pulled out a brand new Boone scope mount marked #104 which is for the Stevens 85 (at least in their catalog advertisements) and it doesn't come close to being correct center to center.

Now the good part of the story is that I have a Lyman 57 TS and a Savage 150 and a couple Boone scope mounts X325 for the Stevens 325 and they all match up perfectly, the Lyman and the #150 clear perfectly on the wood but I'll have to remove a bit to get the Boone scope mount to sit flush.

Only thing stopping me is I can't tell what size screws you use in the factory holes of the Stevens 85. The screws that came in the new Boone scope package fit but seem kinda loose. Did Savage use a different hole size for the Stevens 85 and Stevens 325 for the peep sights?

Could have just pm'd Gene but thought maybe a couple other guys here would like to know what fits and what doesn't.

Just checked the screw on Model 6B with factory installed WFC No 150 and the screws are #10-32. Yours should be the same.

The Boone mount for the 325 should be for a larger diameter receiver than on the Stevens 85, it may just have firm contact under the screws allowing it to rock, it might also set the scope off center to the right a little.

Thanks Gene, I have some of those they just felt wobbly in the mounting holes.

Need to cut them down as well.

So the mount marked 104, that the catalog says is for a Stevens 85 has a shorter center to center than this one, any idea which model Savage put out with that shorter distance or was this mount made to be D&T'd after market?

The WFC 150 sights were post WWII, before that they used the No 105 peep sight which only used one hole and that hole was often only there if the gun was factory supplied with the sight. That one hole was at 90° in a milled flat. The mount might be an early one, I'm not sure when they first came out. I've found some modern screws seem to be made a little undersize and will feel a little loose, the factory screw I checked in a thread gauge was a good close fit.

Yep, my model 7 has the single screw #105 on it so I'm guessing Saturn must have made a mount that had to be D&T'd for it to be fitted, sad.
