Last August I spent a day and a half on the Red River near Winnipeg. The first half day I used a normal guide supplied level wind reel/rod and did very well. I was on my way to Quebec to go after brookies and brought along my fly rod.

The entire next day I used a Winston 9', 9wt. and it performed outstandingly. The guide had expected the rod to blow up and I was the first to show him that it is possible to land bottom lunkers with a good fly rod.
