I have a 1901 SRC and was wondering if it has correct ring dimensions. Measures 1 3/8” OD with .190” thickness.

Not sure anyone really knows what "correct" would be.
There could have been slight differences in ring size over the 20 year run of SRC's
I measured two I have and they are basically the same. Assuming they are perfectly round vs. slightly oval.
#1 came with the rifle. #693xx
#2 is a replacement I bought/added. #1356xx

1) 1.04" +/- OD, .116" thick

2) 1.07" +/- OD, .116" thick

Thanks for measuring. I suspect mine isn’t factory but it’s well made. It looks large and bulky.

I read dallased Post in the other Thread and I am sure my 1903 SRC ring is original and it is split.

When I saw your pictures I immediately thought that your oblong ring might be original but just pulled hard to bend it out of round.

I may be wrong but I don't agree that ( all ) Savage made Saddle Rings were welded shut.

I just measured an 1903 made 303 Savage Saddle Ring Carbine saddle ring,100% sure it's all original.

OD = .925"

ID = .685"

Thickness of material used to make ring = .125".

All measuremants checked twice using good quality calipers. MF.

My idea was to heat red a length of .125" wire and wrap it round a .685" steel mandrel in a spiral (spring like configuration) and while still on the mandrel , slice it along the mandrel length , and close up each ring with pliers to use as saddle rings. One ring for every turn around the mandrel..y be wrong , but I personly don't agree that Savage made rings were ( all ) welded shut .

To re-install the staple ; Put your staple in the fridge freezer and warm your receiver up to @ 150 or so degrees Fahrenheit and the staple should drop right in. When the temperatures return to normal things will tighten up as the holes shrink and the staple legs expand.

Yea sounds like an after market Win 1886 ring. Pretty stout.
Put a leather lace on it to keep it from bouncing around.
I sent you a PM with other possibilities. (says you are over limit, can't send)

Mine is welded. Im a new guy so I don’t have enough post receive or send PM. I think 25 was the minimum number and I’m a couple shy. I’ll post on another topic and see if I get acceptance in the PM club.

This was a drawing I made several years ago at a gun show when I had calipers but could not figure out how to read them or have time to discover how [Linked Image]

A = Inside Dia. of Ring

B = Outside Dia. of the Ring

I looked for other fixed features on the side of the reciever that were the same values as A and B.

Note that the Number Window is oval ,not round.
