I've been loading and hunting with these bullets inherited from my father for several years now. They are in a tuperware labelled in sharpie as "Hornady 180". They absolutely stomp whitetails when fired from my Interarms 30-06. If the deer doesn't drop, which it usually does, I get wide, short blood trails. My only complaint so far is if I hit front shoulder there is significant meat loss in both shoulders. Obviously the easy remedy is to shoot for lungs, but I digress.
The closest approximation I can find in bullets currently offered by Hornady is the SST line. The difference I see is the red tip on the SST. My bullets have a brown/tan tip. These bullets are also at least 5 years old, but probably more. I also find that when loaded to max 30-06 COAL, the cannelure sits quite far above the case mouth. Can anyone help me identify these bullets? Thanks!
