I will start by stating I know little about Rem 700's.The gun is a 30-06 mod. 78, found at a shop I frequent. The metal finish is a green tint matte. The sights are a heavy(coarse) bead blast black. It has a black synthetic, Six Enterprises stock.Scope is a Nikon 2-7x32 matte. The setup feels good& looks very good, conditionwise and stylewise.Would anyone know about:green finish is factory?Six stocks are quality?Scope quality? Is this era of Rem. 700's cosidered to be the "good" ones?Asking price seems fair at $365.00?Thanks,Scott

I remember them when they were new on the market. I did a little research for you, and here is what I came up with:
Mfg. from 1985 to 1989. Available in .223, .243, .270, .308, and 30-06. Came with uncheckered hardwood stock. 22-inch barrel on all calibers.
As I remember, the stocks were a matte varnished birch, with little or no visible grain. The blued steel was brushed, rather than polished. These rifles remind me very much of the Winchester Model 70 Rangers, that were available in just about every Wal-Mart in the free world. I have a friend who has a Six Enterprises stock on a rebarreled Remington 700 in .284. He likes the stock very much. It looks like a typical injection molded stock to me. My recollection of the metal finish was that it was NOT colored as you described. The setup that you described sounds like it would probably make a pretty darn good deer rifle. Mabey not the flashiest rig in the woods, but who cares as long as it's accurate. The price sounds reasonable to me. Is the scope a Nikon Buckmaster? Nothing wrong with any of the Nikons that I've ever peeked through, but I'm a Leupold whore, so my opinion is slanted. I hope this helps.

doorgunner, thanks for the(quick) reply.Seems I remember seeing them in a matte blue type finish too.The scope has only Nikon on it,I looked for monarch or buck masters ,no.It also says Japan,a good sign.I have 3 LEOS, they are nice. The stock is molded, yes, but it is not a "hard&scratchy"type.Sort of"soft&rubbery".A good deer rifle it would make. You did help, thankyou, scott

Sounds like a much better deal since you noted that the Nikon was a Japanese produced model. You might want to snag that package. Take care.

Six Enterprises is a small custom stock maker near where I live in San Jose.
I did a web search and six enterprises stocks appear to be used on a lot of benchrest/target/custom rifles.
Here is contact info:
