Will anyone be shocked to learn that NATO unity is a myth...with Turkey blocking the Bosphorus, not allowing warships in, specifically NATO minesweepers? They aren't letting Russian ships in, either. It has nothing to do with NATO. It's due to the Montreux Convention. Montreux Convention

Montreux ConventionHiker, I believe that Turkey has to allow Russian warships through IF they are registered to a base on the Black Sea. Turkey did recently disallow passage to 3 of 4 ships that weren’t registered there, the 4th which could have legally passed elected to turn back with the other 3. I believe that’s correct. Turkey did this, ostensibly, to remain or appear as neutral in the invasion and conflict. Then Turkey sold arms, drones, etc. to the Ukraine.

He is also trying to buy gold with the Ruble at a lower price than it is going for. Wonder how well that will work? No, he's pegged the Ruble at the equivalent of $1600 an ounce. So if someone needs Rubles they're going to get $1600 worth of them for an ounce of gold. If those people in Western Europe had the option, of course they wouldn't sell gold at that price. But those who rely on Russian natural gas are very short on options, since Putin will only sell them Russian natural gas for Rubles.

The water in the Black Sea is probably pretty cold this time of year
We went to abandon ship stations for a few hours on the Midway in July ‘80 after the collision with the freighter Cactus. It could have very easily turned into a huge conflagration. Not a pleasant thought of jumping over the side of a big boat at night.
