Took the 14 year old daughter shooting today, a Ruger American Rimfire Muddy Girl,
2 MKIIs, 5", one heavy, one tapered.
One bucket of around 1400 Rem Golden Bullets.

The MKIIs must have a bad mag, the first shot would nose dive if I loaded it clear full.
But only from slide drop. Loaded chamber, full mag, it always worked.

We went through 2-300 or so rounds, breaking clay birds then the pieces, off hand at 25yds.
She mostly shot the rifle, but ran 50+ through a pistol. Just getting her started on handguns.

Here is the lucky part.
All those Golden Bullets,
The only issue was the one magazine.
No other jams.
No duds.
No bloopers.
Just every shot exactly like we expected.

To top it off, they have 2 plates about 14" out on the hill beyond the 100 yard targets.
Looks like as far past as the target are from the benches. Call it 200.
Not a huge deal for some, I have rarely shot a 22 that far, never this pink camoed thing.

Using those Golden Bullets, I wanted to try some rifle shots at the steel.
With the bench supporting my elbows, and guessing the top of the heavy post
in the 4x Simmons duplex as a starting point, I rang it. 3 times, first 3 tries.

Em wanted to try, had a hard time getting her to understand the aiming point,
And she had to time the wind. By the time she finished the 10 rounder I started,
she got 2 hits.

Cheap rifle, junk scope, worthless ammo.
Learned that on the 24hourcampfire.

Oh yeah,
Never had a Remington extractor fail, or bolt come off.
No wonder I don't win the Powerball (besides rarely playing)
I done used up my luck.
😁😁😁😁😁😁

Yep... People get angry at me when i don't follow their unsolicited advice... Then when (if) it works works out great... I hear "You Got Lucky"... I get lucky more often than not ... But i think the best luck "you have" is a 14 yr old daughter that would go shooting with her dad instead of play'in with the smartphone and hang'in with her freinds...

Sounds like an absolutely great outing.

I haven’t had too much difficulty with the golden bullets in my MK II’s. The thunderbolts? Generally consistent with the occasional dud but they must use dirt as a filler for the powder. Nasty.

Great time with the girl I’m sure! One of the best things you can do with a daughter is what sometimes is reserved for a son. I had a ton of bad fortune with Remington .22 LR with ammo made probably 15 or 16 years ago. Chased it down to oversized bullets. The “driving band” for lack of a better term measured up to 0.228 . Those we had a hard time loading into a CZ bolt rifle and Ruger Single Six. A Ruger Mk II Heavy Barrel refused to function. Many were 0.225 to 0.227 . Glad Remington has a handle on the problem. .22 ammo manufacturers are a terrible thing to waste.

Nothing beats plinking with your kid.
Got my daughter a youth RAR 22 when she was 12.
After plinking cans for a while I showed her how to brase on a tree, kneel etc. Then I ran out in the woods and placed cans in various places. We did a "safari stroll". As we walked, I'd point out a can and she had to engage it within 3 steps. Confidence builder and lots of fun.

I've never had an issue with the Golds. I recently gave my youngest son one of those buckets.

Dad, is that you?😁

I bought that bucket when ammo became available after the last shortage.
Prices had fallen to just "high". Think it cost around $80.
Was looking to pick up some more, best price I could find was buying 2.
$140ish, each!

Today I see they announced a 20%+ increase come July!

1988 I worked for cash as a farm hand.
Today? A higher paygrade guy, in a well paid union shop.

Comparing take home pay, in 22 ammo terms?

I'm barely making more than I did as a kid!

Dad doing the same job in the 80's, made enough to buy twice as much ammo as I can now.
Inflation is a factor in the $$$,

But figuring it in ammo, sumthings wrong here!

Tried that last night with the one that seems worst.
But, it was also only in the one gun.

This may blow some minds, but these are my first ever 22 handguns,
And first 22 semis. I pulled the bolts last week and cleaned them, a bit.

The bull barreled one was cruddy, but I was in a hurry and did a
half fast job. Yesterday, knocked the upper off the lower,
Ho-Li-Chit! It was filthy. I wasn't into complete disassembly,
but that was what it needed. It got soaked with cleaner, brushed,
toothpicks, blasted out.....

Whoever owned it before must have never cleaned it, or not often.

The barrel had no rifling visible. Some soaking, patch, brush, patches and
it looks good.

The other one got the same treatment, but wasn't too dirty.

All I've ever shot was manual rifles, never did the volume of rounds
through them, cleaned them often. Never saw this amount of crud.

The OCD won't let this rest.
Complete disassembly will have to happen soon.
That hidden crud, will haunt me.

Might take off the grips and brake clean it.
It's only a Ruger😉!

Hanco,
It's been great.

She is 14, and everyone says she is "Little Karl". Her mom says
"Karl without a ....".

And that's not a good thing. We butt heads. A lot.

She loves to shoot, and over the last week we've been out several times.
Not long enough to be sure, but it seems things are much better, we
found something to do where we work together. (Except buying ammo😉😉)

What they say about us being alike?
My attention span is real short, most times we shoot ,it's less that an hour.
I'll hit a wall, look at her, and she is right there. Had enough.
