Come on, people! The sky's not falling! We've always gotten out of things like this before! Stop all the doom and gloom! Put on your rose colored glasses!

UP needs people so bad that they are now hiring felons. They cant keep people long enough to even get them trained to do the job. And the 2 tier wages dont help when you are working next to a guy that is paid almost 2x of what you make

A good friend of mine worked for the railroad for 12 or so years and he finally had enough of getting laid off twice a year for the past 6 or 8 years so he quit and took the test to become a firefighter and passed and got hired on about 4 months ago. Took a pretty good paycut but he's got stability. He hated the RR but the money was great when he was working.

Good article HERE for those looking.
from what i have read on railroad forums, and from my brother who drives trains as an engineer .the R.R's have layed off and cut back on perssonel so much they dont have enough people to run the trains ,and they dont want to hire anyone ,in fact ,they are wanting to go to just one person in the engine . there are only two people in a freight train

Yes - precision railroading is biting them hard.

Is the capacity shortage a spillover from the increase in Intermodal demand? If so, there may be light on the horizon with the reduction in the number of cans coming in......

I could see the problem coming 10 years ago and prepared accordingly. I informed many whom I love with very little results. Its not my job to feed them or prepare for them it was my job to inform them.

Wise is the man who sees the calamity before it happens and prepares. Honestly anyone who didn't see it coming had there eyes completely closed or its hard to see daylight thru rectal tissue

Good bullets properly placed always work, but not everyone knows what good bullets are, or can reliably place them in the field

There's a guy on ere who sells local dirt. Supposed to be the best kind.

I've gone to it exclusively, quit using that out-of-town dirt altogether.

Pack it in your ears. That's your most fertile area for growth.
