I just sold one a month ago. They pop up from time to time on gunbroker, auctionarms etc. Just be patient and one will show. They are neat rifles.

My local gun shop has had one on the rack for a while now in .270 win. It has weaver rings and a Tasco on it. It's in very nice shape. They want $450 for it.

There was some rumor I heard that Marlin was bought out by Mossberg. I personally don't believe it.
Now after seeing this rifle, it sure does look like a savage. It makes me wonder if Marlin and Savage are not merging or somehow formed an alliance. Just think; Marlin could manufacture a lever for Savage and Savage could manufacture the bolt for Marlin.
Maybe the savage lever will be reminicent of the old model 99 but be chambered for the 30-30, 35 Rem, possibly the 358 win or the 308ME or even the 300 Savage.
This type of partnership would give both companies an entry into a market they currently have no products in. And both companies could concentrate on what they know best.
Although it would more likely be the 336A and 336W that would leave the Marlin line and go to the Savage line re-worked for some cosmetics.

Also, I sure hope Marlin comes out with a walnut version of the XL-7.
Because I just can get myself to buy a plastic gun! I can't even by a 22 LR in plastic.
The MR-7 didn't make it and that was when Winchester was still mass producing the model 70. They are bringing back the model 70 in 2008 but it will be pricey as rumors I've heard were satrting at $1,000.
So maybe this is a bit better market timing. But is sure seems to me that there are plenty of people making entry level plastic bolt actions. This I assume will go head to head with Stevens and Savage. Which is why my earlier post suggested there may be a partnership arrangement between Savage and Marlin.

The rear of the bolt dosn't really look Savage does it?. at least as I remember it from several years ago. It does look Mossberg there, I've seen those from jeweling rifle bolts for guys. The trigger sure looks like Savages patent.

It is a Sako-style bolt sleeve. Bruce

Back to the MR7, bought a used one in 30-06, mostly because it included a varix2 and nice sling for $399. It was accurate and seemed well made, but I had 3 other 06 rifles at the time. Kept the scope and sling and traded it in on a 99 Savage.
Not a bad rifle.

The one-piece base doesn't look right. Is this a stock Marlin pic? If so, they could have done better. Talleys would have gone a long way

I want a MR-7 in .280 Rem. They didn't make many and I've only seen one in the flesh. It was a little rough (well used) for my taste so I passed. Saw another on Gun Broker that I should have bought.

For a complet writeup and test of the MR7 check out www.gunblasts.com. The article says that the rifle shoots near MOA with factory ammo. This rifle uses some of the Savage Icon designs with improvements. The Marlin version of the Savage accutrigger is much better as is the safety position. The Marlin has a nice softer buttpad than the Savage hockey puck.Marlins plastic stock is pillar bedded. The barrel uses the nut ala Savage which means you could switch barrels as easily as a Savage if they become available which means you can custom design your own rifle. I own three Savages which have all been rebarreled and restocked from thier original calibers to ones I want, .35 Whelen, .308 and 7x57. The 7x57 is in a plastic stock, barrel free floated, rugged bad weather guna and shoots sub MOA. I like the design of the Marlin and if aftermarket stuff becomes available for it I prefer it to the Savage and would not hesitate to use one as a project rifle. By the way, Marlin is now owned by the same holding company as Remington.

SC, I have an MR-7 in .280 in excellent condition that was purchased 2 years ago. It came with a Bushnell Trophy 3x9x40mm scope & I payed $325.00, a real good deal. It's the most accurate factory rifle in my vault. The .280 Remington was the last caliber added to the line & was made only in 1998 & 1999, the last 2 years of production. I'll keep this one & eventually pass it on to my sons. If you get the opportunity to pick one up, certainly do so. You will not regret it.
