FMI, what makes the high numbers more desirable? A friend has one and they are very nice guns indeed. Cabelas has one on GI for a grand, so this is a good deal!

If I remember correctly, Winchester changed the gas system to a chromed finish, helping the gun operate better. There may have been other mods done as well but I can't recall all the details.
The Super X 1 was a fantastic autoloader with a milled receiver but it became too expensive to build.
There are 2 rules to success:
1. Never tell everything that you know.

The trigger is improved as is the contact point for the rib on the end of the barrel. I've owned a couple of them, still have one. I picked one up at the LGS for less than 300 bucks as they didn't know what they had. Just great shotguns for the clays games but perhaps a bit heavy for the field IMHO. This is a super nice shotgun for the money and anyone looking at one would be well advised to pick this up.

The Super X 1 was a fantastic autoloader with a milled receiver but it became too expensive to build. Winchester did not chrome the gas system or the magazine tube. Nuline line guns offers a chrome coated gas system along with a stainless magazine tube which is highly recommended for the Super-X. The highest serial number I have seen on a Super-X was in the 88,000 range yet have read of guns in the 92,000 range. Guns above serial number 60,000 are the most desirable as the newer generation of the trigger group etc were made. Tom Knapp shot Super-X's for his shooting demonstrations before Benelli started sponsoring Tom.....the reason was the Super-X was the fastest cycling auto made. The best auto shotgun made in the USA.

Thanks for providing the information and praise for this shotgun, guys. I also have this one’s sibling, just a couple hundred difference in the serial number. It’s got a 26” barrel and IC choke. I absolute. First thing I did when I got it was to change out the bolt buffer and O ring, like this one.
I’ve shot close to 1,000 rounds since getting it last summer and have only lubricated it a couple times and have not had any failures. It’s really soft shooting and very enjoyable to shoot.

This is a great shotgun at a great price. I have a similar vintage trap model that I use for all clay target games. These late model guns had three major improvements that solved most of the reliability issues Winchester had. The soldered rib replaced the previous ribs that had a screw at the muzzle end which would occasionally work loose (a little loctite was also a fix). The outside of the magazine tubes where chrome plated to avoid corrosion that was possible with the previous blued models. Finally, the trigger was upgraded to what was called Stage 3 design which removed a pre-travel adjustment feature that could loosen up. With all these improvements and the new buffer and O-ring this gun is ready to go and provide great service. I personally find these to be the softest shooting semi-autos. This would also make a great sport clays gun and at the prices of a well used 1100 this is a great value. Good luck with the sale.
