I just finished prepping about 200 pieces of 30 06 brass with mixed head stamps Win, F.C. and Hornady. They have all been reloaded and fired 4-5 times. When I was cleaning the primer pockets I found about 14 pieces of Win. Brass that had a small knick in the flash hole. It was as if a small amount of material had broken off. Has anyone else had this happen before? I set them all aside, I'll probably load a couple and test for any changes in accuracy.

It was only the Winchester brass that had these small defects/Knicks on the flash hole. I don't remember them being there the last time I prepped the brass.

Sorry for the poor quality photo, I couldn't get the darn thing to focus very well.

Thoughts and opinions, please and thank you.

Go ahead and not worry about it. Or load them all up and shoot a 14 shot group. If you do well go back to not worrying about it.

I'm not sure if I know what you mean by true them up.

There are flash hole deburring tools that clean up things like this if you so desire. That is what he means "true them up."

Flash hole deburring only works if the hole hasn’t enlarged too much. Hard to tell by the pic, but IMO max would be 1 more firing then trashed. Considering the quantity I would personally trash them now and not waste time or components.

If this is for hunting ammo then it won't hurt a thing. If you have the tools then uniform the primer pocket and deburr the flashhole and you are good to go.

If you find yourself in a hole....quit digging
