How long before the pain goes completely away! The hip pain is way less. But the pain in my thigh is still there. Denny

Had both mine done. I know this sounds bad but give it 6 months to lose the little twinges. Dr said complete healing in a year. I was just glad to get rid of the major pain I had.

I broke the ball off my femur in Jan, got a new hip to fix it. Still have muscle pain, but I'm able to do most everything I could before breakage. I limp a lot but can still get around. I've worked up to 100 squats.

Any major bone surgery takes most of a year to totally heal and the scar tissue to stabilize. I've had several back surgeries and that was the case, and same with my wife's knee replacement.

The hip pain went away immediately with the new components. The healing pain from the disturbed muscle was completely gone in about 5-6 months for me.

Well it’s only been a month, so I guess I don’t have any thing to complain about.

I’ve had both done in the last 3 years. The left (first one done), took a long time for the thigh pain to stop. I still get numbness occasionally, but it’s not pain per say. I believe the numbness is from the nerve block. The right one, done this past December, healed much quicker. The actual pain from the bone on bone, was gone immediately after the surgery. Give it some time, every day it gets better.

I broke my hip two years ago and by the time I had finished my therapy ----around 8 sessions, I was cured. Never had any pain since. I was 74 then---still doesn't hurt! I have had both knees replaced also and although they healed good, each one took longer to heal completely. Everybody I know says their hip replacements were like mine in comparisons to knee replacements. Now, if they could fix my ageing.

Are you going for Physical Therapy ? Doing you daily home exercises, no more than advised by your PT and doctor ? I didn't have much pain after having both hips replaced on the same day, didn't even finish the Rx pain meds they sent me home from the hospital with. A gel cold pad is your friend, take your pain meds before PT and ice for 20-30 mins. afterwards.

Total hip done last winter, Took 1 pain pill in the hospital never took another on. Went to PT and kept doing the stuff when they kicked me out. I wished I hadn't been so bull headed and did it a couple years earlier.

It took close to 5 mos for me, and I had PT. Hot Epsom Salt baths help. Ice pack during the day works very well. Also, you can take 800mg (4 reg tabs) Ibuprofen along with, at the same time, two Extra Strength Tylenol; 3 times a day. Fish oil helps inflammation also. Good luck to you Pard!

Incision in front of the hip, or on the side? Latter technique will take a longer recovery than the former. I had the first and went on an elk hunt in 6 months which was a bit too early.
In regard to the two techniques, much more muscle trauma with the lateral technique, thus more recovery time.
Generally.

Be careful with the Extra Strength Tylenol, it can cause issues with your liver.

Avoid drinking alcohol if you use Tylenol.

The total hip replacement eliminated the pain I had before the surgery. I experienced no pain after the surgery but was sore for approximately two months. Did physical therapy after the surgery which greatly helped the recovery.

Did physical therapy after the surgery which greatly helped the recovery. My experience is similar. My doctor isn’t a big fan of therapy (walking is the best therapy in his opinion) and I was instructed not to do anything that caused pain. Stepping sideways up and down hurt and I refused to do those kind of exercises. The pain I experienced after surgery was the pain of healing. Nothing like before the operation.
