With archery season behind me (sore subject) I can now start chasing birds. It feels GREAT to have a firearm in the field! This is my first quail of the year, and my Beagle's very first quail that she found/flushed, followed during the shot, and pounced on while the feathers were still floating down. I was a proud dad!
The area I was at gets hunted HARD, including today, so the best I could do was a single bird. The quail are crazy fast, low flying, and flush like an F16. I just wasn't up to the challenge I guess.....
Hunting was a mix of this brushed-over creek beds, and the sage covered hills visible in the background.
This view at the pickup capped off the day.
