Yeah what everyone else said. That second one is nothing but an injury that’s going to happen.

I used to know a woman who would have altered that third one a bit and made use of it several times a day.

I never saw the the thing. But heard really scary stories of a hay baler converted to split wood.
There is a lot of energy stored in that spinning flywheel and heavy plunger.

I think the guy in the second one is the head of OSHA and just needs to let it all go on the weekends.

At least he was protecting his hearing. eek

Those are also known as the "wheel of death" splitters. Generally only see them working with straight grain poplar or birch.

I used a hay baler converted to split wood, run behind an old John Deere one lunger, to split about several hundred cords of wood for Big Sky back in the 70's. Really had to watch it, only way to shut it down was to shut the tractor down.

OSHA would have a fit, but one must admit they're extremely effective.

Didn't watch the videos, but I am a fairly dangerous firewood splitter.

I'd have to have a suit of armour like those jousters, before I'd use that 2nd one.

Hahahaha! I am sure he is dead or horribly maimed by now.

That noose dangling next to the giant spinning wheel could cause no problems whatsoever.

A friend's custom wood splitter. Not particularly dangerous, just different. Powered by a 4 cyl Wisconsin.

Most things having to do with safely making firewood are somewhat dangerous. Why make it more so?

Just a matter of time before #2 is a statistic.

Only watched the first 4, but that lst one looks OK to me. Of course, I'm still using a steel wedge and splitting maul.
