Wife inherited a single shot H&R 410. Does not eject spent shells all the time and looking for a replacement part. Will need to know the model number and that is proving hard to find. I (think) it may be a model 1908/no 8? Serial number is a 199XXX, which indicates it was made in 1940. Says made in USA 410 choke on top of the barrel. Left of the receiver is a single line Harrington & Richardson Arms Co. Below that is a very light script starting with a large P followed by 7 or 8 letters ending in an e. Script is very flowery and looks professionally done but is a very fine print and different from the H&R line above. Teaching my grandson how to shoot a shotgun with this and any info would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Not familiar with that piece, but...Is the ejector worn, or is it the spring? The spring should be easy to replace if it is a coil. Also - if that spring resides in a burrow, make sure that isn't all gunked up- which is likely you have already done, from your post. Good luck. I need to start going to yard sales, etc. to find a cheap .410 for grouse. SS is fine. I've a hundred rounds or so of 410, but no gun... Oh well, my 20 works fine - haven't fired any of the four 12s I have in years.

Check to make sure the chamber is real clean and the shells you use have smooth hulls. By that I mean, I have some off brand imported 410 shells with a very thin hull and the pellets are packed so tight that you can feel them bulge through the hull. These always hang up no matter what.
The lion and tiger might be stronger, but the wolf does not perform in the circus.

Start with buffing the chamber as others have said. I have an old H&R like you described and it says Bay State on it as well. It was made before my time and I would guess the ejector spring on them are fairly universal.
I am always looking for factory wood stocks!

There's an ejector latch & spring, & the ejector & it's own spring.
Like's been said, the ejector will sometimes be gummed up, especially on the older guns. And, the latch can be as well. Remove the barrel & flush those parts well while manipulating them.
What length shells are you shooting in it. If it's a 1940 model it's likely not a 3" chamber & fired 3" shells will be hard to eject, plus not being recommended.

Looking in a book I have shows a NO. 8 single shot hammer shotgun made between 1908-1942. Chambered in 12,16,20,28, and .410. Could very well be the model

Thanks for all the info. Basically, I wanted to confirm that it was the model 8. Also, very curious about the script on the side. Wondering what it said. No one seems to have info on that so it may have been done just to this gun. Thanks again for the info. Cleaned it up good and will try again tomorrow. If it sticks, will be ordering parts from Numrich.

Finally ran across a picture and the Scrip on the side is Bay State. Economy version of the standard model. Since this is a light weight gun, assuming it is a Bay State 7
