I saw a 1899 C half octagon barrel 303 for sale today that has been D/T, buttstock cut down with an aluminum butt plate, Kollmorgen 26mm Tube Bear Cub 2 3/4x scope in Redfield mounts, looks like a 5B front sight, the stock had a crappy refinish done, all the metal looked good with 90% finish that looks all original with 4 boxes of factory 180 gr. ammo. They want $750.00 for it. That seems pretty rich to me but then again in todays crazy world who knows? I have an itch to buy it but i have a hard time getting by the D/T. Any opinions/input? Thanks guys!

Depending on the ammo brand, that alone could be $250-$300 of the value.
Not to mention scope value as well.
As always, if possible, pics help.

Seems pricey to me. I wouldn't even buy it and I buy about any 1899 laugh

I prefer classic.

Wow, just about 90% of your description is right up my alley. As for the DT, I’d stick on mount for a Unertl small game scope I happen to have. Of course the buttstock would need replacing. But that’s me. For you I’d try talking the seller down and if he doesn’t budge I’d declare my decision made and walk.

I tried to talk them down, $725.00 was as low as they would go, add tax and it's $800.00. It's still calling my name and whispering sweet nothings in my ear! LOL I just might have to take another look tomorrow, hopefully it will have sold.

I'm assuming they just got it? If so, and you're not sure, let them sit a bit and hit them again.

I'm going to sit on it just like PSH said. I would like to have it but not at that price. I'd rather add a few more hundred bucks and get an unadulterated specimen.

I buy "distressed rifles" to get a sample of something I could never afford. Back in March I bought a 1902, Tue engraved rifle for $1300. Blue on the barrel is very nice, but the whole receiver is gray, no extra holes, nice wood, but has a very fixable tang crack. Several years ago I got a 1928 K with a Noske side mount, right over the engraving, for a good bit less than $1000. A "C" is on my list of wants, but I think I'd even pass on that one. At least my other orphans are matching numbers. If you plan on finding an original butt stock, that could put the price up more. Since I don't sell much, the ammo extra's are nice, but I don't recoup anything for them.

I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.
