I think the 1-6×24 viper pst would work well for what youre doing. I'd have a backup scope at the ready.

A 2.5-8 Leupold would work quite nicely if a 1.5-5 doesn't suit your fancy.

Another vote for 2.5-8. While 1.5-5 is better up close and personal, if you see game in a clear cut. The 8 will serve you better. Most of my hunting rigs have 2.5-10 or 3.5-10
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I put this on a 45/70 guide gun. It is way too heavy for me to consider it a very good all around scope for this rifle, but for hunting bears over bait in a very dark spot, I think it's ideal. https://www.ebay.com/p/2315600673

Would anyone on this thread use a Nightforce 3-10 SHV with an illuminated Forceplex reticle?
Okie John
If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

I put a Tract 1X8 on my 416 Remington, excellent field of view on low power and ample magnification for longer distances.
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

Okie John I would. I have an SWFA 1-6 on a 375 h&h and I like it very much for close up shots and moving game in thick cover.

I'd use that scope over anything else suggested especially straight tube Leupolds

Thanks for the responses. Didn't mean to hijack.
