I went back and fourth about a million times on this build. I wanted to do a custom build on my 8400 300wsm for my Africa trip next year, but stock makers are asking for a ton of money, plus a left nut. It’s the left nut where I threw in the towel. BUT, I happened to run across a smith here in CO who is not well known, but seems to do nice work. He seemed genuinely interested in building my stock, so I’m taking the chance. Last time I went out on a limb like this Donnie Gemes at Show Me gunstocks produced an incredible stock for my Pre-64 270. Let’s hope this stock maker does the same, and I don’t throw away $1400 on a blank that he screws up. I’m having him build a duplicate stock to the original, but adding a cheek piece, ebony forend, and red pad. His price seems to good to be true, but even the smith admitted he may be making a mistake charging me so little for the work. Wish me luck.
