Short of cutting it into small cubes how can I be sure there is no shot. The recipes I see with the plucked bird and perfectly browned skin look great but I can see shot holes. If you don't follow each trail to its end there willl be feathers and maybe shot left in the meat. Ruins the meal when you think you migh have of broken a tooth. Thanks

I try to go up in shot size and speed. I find that #4s kills ducks great but so do #2s and most pellets pass thru the bird.
Most of my upland birds get shot with #5s for the same reason.
It’s obviously a compromise of pattern density, effectiveness and subsequently the amount of shot one may find in the birds.
The other move is to increase your lead and try to keep as much of the pattern in front of the bird as one can and still be lethal.

One of my hunting buddies is a veterinarian and he uses his office x-ray machine.
I personally, just clean them up the best I can.

We just clean them up well. I'd wager I cook more game birds than most and we will find pellets occasionally in the cooked bird. My kids know to chew softly on the first bite.

Thanks for your time. I'll try the larger shot idea. Thats if I can find it this fall. Head shots on the edge of pattern sounds easy enough.😂

Yeah, just make all head shots. Simple...

I mostly waterfowl... I admit that head shots on geese may be easier to achieve than quail or dove

Many brands of shot detectors out there work well and cost little... different brands are often identical once you get past the label.
Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.
